The development of information and communication technology led to many changes in the overall modern society. Especially, the technical development brought the radical changes in knowledge construction. These changes allows educators to attempt new knowledge constituted by the new method in the educational environment, and adapt them out. Even the needs for a change in educational environment will not be an exception in the Christian church education. However, we should try to question ourselves how well the today’s church eduction is accommodating these needs. In this matter, this study attempt to examine the possibility of Christian alternative education throughout developing and applying a smart problem-based learning program to the next generation of Christian youth. A smart problem-based learning program is a new learning medium that is developed by using smart technology education environment which has emerged as a new way of the problem-based learning for learner-centered learning in knowledge-based society. The subjects were 33 youth students and 10 teachers, who came from seven small churches at which 10 or fewer students are attending. The results of study showed the positive responses at satisfaction in the program, internalization of faith, and utilization of smart devices. Therefore, the possibility of church education by smart problem-based learning can be expected as an alternative method of Christian education in a new era.

정보통신기술의 발달은 사회에 전반적인 영역에 다양한 변화를 가져왔다. 특히 지식구성에 있어서 급격한 변화를 가져왔다. 이와 같은 교육환경의 변화에 대한 필요성은 기독교 교회교육도 예외가 될 수 없을 것이다. 교회교육의 대상자들 또한 변화를 추구하는 일반교육의 환경 속에서 새로운 방식에 의해 새로운 지식 구성을 시도하고 있으며, 적응해 나가고 있다. 그러나 지금의 교회교육의 모습은 과연 이와 같은 변화를 얼마나 수용하고 있는지 반문해 보아야 할 것이다. 이런 맥락에서 본 연구는 교회교육의 다음세대인 기독교 청소년을 대상으로 지식기반사회 속에서 새로운 학습자 중심의 학습방법으로 제시되고 있는 문제기반학습을 근간으로 새로운 학습매체로 등장하고 있는 스마트 테크놀로지 교육환경을 활용한 스마트 문제기반학습 프로그램을 개발하여 적용함으로 새로운 시대 속에서의 대안적 기독교 교회교육의 가능성을 탐색해 보고자 하였다. 연구 대상은 청소년부(중고등부) 출석 인원 10명 이하인 7개소의 소형교회를 대상으로 청소년 33명과 교사 10명이었으며, 연구 결과 만족도, 신앙의 내면화, 스마트 기기 활용도에서 모두 긍정적인 반응을 확인하게 되었다. 이러한 결과는 스마트 PBL에 의한 교회교육 프로그램이 새로운 시대의 대안적인 기독교 교육방법의 하나로서 가능성을 기대하게 한다.
