This study focuses on extracting the philosophy of Baduk in ancient times through some Baduk literature included in the well-known classic of Baduk, ‘Hyun-hyun Ki-kyung.’ The results are as follows: First, the philosophy of Baduk in ancient times is largely divided into two main views: categorical and artistic. Second, the categorical one reveals 4 different views: an artistic Tao of 4 ethical virtues, a leisure of wisdom and calculation, a culture of hobby of the noble, and a metaphor of human life. Third, the artistic one was advocated by 4 persons, who all regarded Baduk as the analogy of the art of war, revealing the view that it is a game of war. Fourth, the ancient philosophy of Baduk is quite similar to that of today except the concept of ‘sports,’ which implies that the contemporary philosophy has a deep-rooted origin. Fifth, the 8 advocates developed systematically their logic by introducing cosmology, the quotations of the sages, social institutions, real cases, etc. This results raise the need of exploring ancient philosophy of Baduk to know the root and essence of a variety of views on Baduk.

이 연구는 고대의 바둑문헌을 통해 선인들이 바둑을 어떻게 바라보고 어떤 사고를 했는가 하는 바둑철학을 탐구해 보려는 데 목적이 있다. 중국 원나라 때 출간된 바둑고전인 ‘현현기경’ 에 수록된 8인의 문헌자료를 분석하여 고대의 바둑철학을 추출하고 분류해 보았다. 그 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 고대의 바둑철학은 바둑이 인간사회에서 어떤 위치를 차지하고 있는가에 관한 범주적 바둑관과, 바둑이 어떤 성격의 기예인가에 관한 예능적 바둑관으로 대별할 수 있다. 둘째, 범주적 바둑관은 우집, 구양현, 안천장, 반고에 의해 주창되었는데, 이들은 각각 인의예 지의 예도, 지혜와 산법의 레저, 군자의 유예지도, 세상사의 메타포라는 입장을 보여주고 있다. 셋째, 예능적 바둑관은 피일휴, 유중보, 장의, 마융에 의해 제시되었는데, 이들은 모두 바둑을 병법(兵法)과 유사한 것으로 간주하여 ‘전쟁의 게임’이라는 철학을 표방하고 있다. 그러나 유중 보와 장의는 바둑의 기술이 속임이 아닌 기강과 격식, 정도(正道)에 입각해야 한다는 점을 강조 하고 있다. 넷째, 고대 중국의 문헌에 나타난 바둑철학은 ‘스포츠’라는 개념을 빼고는 현대사회에서 논급 되고 있는 바둑관과 매우 유사하며, 이는 현대의 바둑철학이 상당히 오랜 역사적 연원을 갖고 있음을 시사해 준다. 다섯째, 8인의 논자들은 우주론, 성현의 어록, 사회제도, 실제사례 등을 도입하여 자신의 바 둑철학에 대한 근거를 제시하는 논리의 체계성을 지니고 있다. 이 연구결과는 다양한 바둑관의 뿌리와 본질을 탐구하기 위하여 고대의 바둑철학을 깊이 있 게 연구할 필요가 있음을 일깨워준다.
