This study was aimed at developing teaching materials for Korean learners with a purpose of translating Korean literature. This study contains results of a survey on demands about teaching materials and educational contents. For the survey, questionnaires were distributed and in-depth interviews were conducted about foreign learners selected by Literature Translation Institute of Korea to translate Korean literature for one and half years from September 2012 to June 2014. A total of 31 students, including 15 students who finished lessons on Korean literature and the Korean language for a year from 2012 to 2013 and 16 students who will join a free training program for translation of Korean literature, took part in the survey. An analysis was conducted about needs of Korean learners with a purpose of translating Korean literature based on contents of questionnaires and in-depth interviews with 16 learners who were taking part in the free translation training program. Those learners had sufficient experience of learning the Korean language and had the high level Korean language skills. They expressed high demands on reading and writing, out of speaking, listening, reading and writing. As they wanted to have skills on reading and writing, they needed knowledge of a vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, grammar and the sentence structure. They wanted to improve their reading ability to raise understanding of Korean literature, novels in particular, According to the survey, those Korean learners needed Korean language skills needed for understanding and expressing Korean literature. In other words, they wanted to learn a vocabulary and grammatical expressions mainly to improve an ability to read and understand literary works and literature-related books. Those persons wanted to acquire an ability to understand special meanings of Korean literature, especially novels, through learning idiomatic terms or expressions that they couldn't know without understand Korean literature. The effect of education will get larger when various materials satisfying learners' purposes are developed and teaching materials contain right contents for learners' needs. Proper grammatical elements for the writing ability should be selected to develop teaching materials so that students with a goal of translating Korean literature can learn terms containing background knowledge needed to understand Korean literature according to those Korean learners and a vocabulary necessary for understanding literary expressions and then they can summary, arrange and express their literature impressions for expression what they understand.

본고는 한국문학 번역 목적 한국어 학습자들을 위한 교재를 개발할 필요가 있 다는 인식하에 시도되었다. 본고는 한국문학번역원에서 2012년 9월에서 2014년 6월까지 1년 반 동안 한국문 학번역을 위해 선발된 외국인 학습자 5기와 6기(2기)를 대상으로 실시한 설문지와 심층인터뷰 방법으로 교재와 그 교육내용에 대한 요구 사항을 조사한 결과를 수 록하였다. 이 조사에는 2012년부터 2013년 한 해 동안 한국문학과 한국어 학습을 수료한 학생 15명과 이제 새롭게 한국문학번역을 연수받을 학생 16명, 총 31명이 참여하였다. 이 설문지의 내용을 토대로 하고 현재 번역 연수 지원을 받는 학습자 16명을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 한 결과를 바탕으로 한국문학 번역 목적의 한국 어 학습자들의 교재에 대한 요구를 분석해 본 것이다. 교재를 개발하기에 앞서 이들의 학습 목적을 조사하는 이유는 기존의 한국문 학 번역 교과목의 목표가 한국어의 의사소통 능력 함양이었기 때문이다. 즉, 기존 의 강좌내용은 한국어 능력 함양이 목적이고 이에 한국문학은 한국의 사회 문화 에 대한 이해를 증진하기 위한 도구적 성격이 강했다. 그러나 한국문학번역 학습 자들의 학습 목적은 한국문학의 이해와 분석, 그리고 번역 자체이므로 그 목적 자 체가 매우 다르다. 조사 결과, 한국문학 번역 한국어 학습자들은 한국문학을 이해하고 표현할 때 요구되는 한국어 능력이 필요하다는 답을 했다. 즉, 문학 작품과 함께 한국문학을 이해할 수 있는 문학관련 서적을 읽고 이해하는 능력 향상을 중심으로 하는 어휘 와 문법 표현 등을 숙지하기를 원하는 것이다. 그리고 한국문학번역 목적 학습자 들은 한국문화를 이해하지 않고서는 알 수 없는 관용적 어휘나 표현을 배워 한국 문학, 이 중에서도 소설 작품이 갖고 있는 특수한 의미를 이해하는 능력을 습득할 수 있기를 원했다. 학습자의 목적에 맞는 교재가 다양하게 개발되어야 하고 학습자의 요구에 맞 는 교육 내용으로 교재가 구성되었을 때 교육의 효과는 커질 것이다. 한국문학 목 적 학습자의 요구에 맞도록 한국문학을 이해하는 데에 필요한 배경지식을 담은 어휘들과 문학적인 표현을 이해하는 데에 필요한 어휘들을 학습한 후 그 이해한 내용을 표현할 때 요약, 정리하고 자신의 문학적 소감을 표현할 수 있는 쓰기 능 력에 적합한 문법 요소들을 선정하여 교재를 개발하여야 한다.
