This study was conducted to find the characteristics of child leader in free choice activities. The results of this study will be a good basic data for instruction leadership of children. The data were collected by field note, interview of teachers and children from October 10th to November 7th in 2013. Collected data were analyzed based on the qualitative research method. The Reachers translated all the collected data to documents, read them repeatedly, tried to find meaningful words and categorized those words. Trough this process, the characteristics of a child leader were described. The results of this study were as follows. There were three child leaders who were selected by teacher and classmates. The child leader were classified as three types a lead /suggestion type, a lead/control type and a lead/acceptance type. Three types have lead as a common characteristic, but have also different characteristics. Especially, one kind of characteristics did not found in the preceding researches. An acceptance leader of this study was not found in the preceding researches, and further discussion was conducted.

본 연구는 유아 리더십 지도의 기초자료로 활용할 목적으로 자유선택활동 시 나타나는 유아리더의 특성을 알아보았다. 자료는 2013년 10월 7일부터 2013년 11월 7일까지 유아들을 관찰한 기록지와 담임 교사 면담, 학급 유아를 대상으로 하는 설문조사를 통해 수집하였다. 수집한 자료는 질적 연구방법으 로 분석하였다. 수집된 자료를 문서로 만들고 반복읽기를 통해 의미 있는 단어를 찾아내고 유목화하는 작업을 통해 유아리더의 특성을 정리하였다. 연구결과, 담임교사와 또래들이 선택한 N반의 리더는 총 세 명이었다. 유아리더는 주도하고 제안하는 리더, 주도하고 통제하는 리더, 주도하고 수용하는 리더로 구분할 수 있으며, 세 명의 리더 모두 ‘주도’하는 모습이 공통으로 나타났지만 서로 다른 성향의 모습 도 나타났다. 본 연구 결과 나타난 수용하는 리더는 선행연구에 나타나지 않은 리더의 특성으로 이에 대해 논의를 하였다.
