This study is to begin from the intention of explore the theological value and practical possibility of application upon followership emerged as a pivotal variable in the study of leadership. This result is from the fact that the access style to leadership has changed from leader-centered methodology in the past to collateral direction including inner followers and surrounding context. And the fact that the core element of leadership formation has been moved from efficiency to ethic became another important motive on followership study. So, this study was to begin with the intention of expansion of leadership study’s area from the beginning and the dualistic perspective between leadership and followership was excluded on purpose. The reason of intentional denial regarding a dualistic separation between leadership and followership and attempt to build up an organic mutuality of each other were based on the assurance of theoretical appropriateness and active embracement of various changes in real situation of ministry. That is because the church leaders who lacks of the cooperation with their followers are unimaginable and it is obvious for their system of cooperation to be strengthened by theological vindication and practical request. To do this task effectively, this study will be briefly dealing with historical background and evolutionary process of followership at the first part. Then, the necessity of mutual influence between leadership and followership will be explained by describing effect and meaning through the flow of followership in relation to reestablishment of leadership theories. And there will be an analysis of possibility whether a connective work between leadership and followership can make any difference in the context of the Korean churches with a suggestion of potentially apparent conclusion applicable to the Korean churches. Although the contents in this study cannot cover everything about leadership and followership and it cannot be the sole response to the crises of the contemporary Korean churches, a suggestion of one possible answer among many other resolutions will have enough meaningfulness for further study.

본 논문은 리더십 연구방식에 중요한 변수로 등장한 팔로워십(followership) 연구 가 지니는 신학적 가치와 의미, 실제적 적용 가능성을 탐구하려는 의도로부터 시작되 었다. 이런 의도는 기본적으로 리더십에 대한 접근방식이 과거의 개인 중심적 시각에 서 집단의 구성원 전체와 주변 정황을 염두에 둔 통전적인 방향으로 전환된 사실에 주목한 결과이다. 또한 리더십을 구성하는 핵심요소가 효율성으로부터 윤리성의 강화 로 전환된 점도 중요한 연구의 동기로 작용했다. 따라서 본고는 리더십 연구의 영역 확대를 처음부터 염두에 두고 진행되었으며, 팔로워십과 리더십을 이분법적으로 구별 하는 시각을 의도적으로 지양했다. 리더십과 팔로워십의 이분법적 단절의 거부와 양 자의 유기적 융합을 추구한 이유는, 이론적 정당성 이외에 실제 교회현장에서 벌어지 는 다양한 변화들을 적극적으로 수용한 결과이다. 구성원들과의 연계를 배제한 교회 지도자는 점차 상상할 수 없는 대상이며, 협업체제는 신학적 정당성은 물론 현실의 요청에 의해 더욱 강화되고 있기 때문이다. 이를 효율적으로 수행하기 위해 본고는 우선 팔로워십의 등장배경과 전개과정 자 체를 설명하고 그 내용이 리더십 이론의 재정립에 미친 영향과 의의를 서술함으로써, 양자가 상호보완적 역할을 수행해야할 당위성을 피력할 것이다. 그리고 그런 리더십과 팔로워 십의 연결 작업이 한국교회의 현실에 적용될 수 있는 가능성을 점검하면서, 한국교회 현실에 적합한 잠정적 결론을 제안하는 방향을 추구할 것이다. 비록 본고에 서 다룰 리더십과 팔로워십의 내용이 리더십과 관련한 모든 내용을 수용하거나 한국 교회의 리더십 위기를 타개하는 유일한 처방을 제공할 수 없지만, 하나의 잠재적 가 설을 제공하는 점에 의의를 부여하고 싶다.
