TOPIK, as the most authoritative Korean proficiency test, has beenevaluating learners' proficiency of Korean comprehensively through the variousevaluation domains. Its grading system has been made mostly in focusing onlearners’ cognitive ability. However, to test Korean proficiency properly,considering text is the basis of linguistic activities, it is essential that thecharacteristics of the text should be considered systematically. As a process forsuggesting a possibly ideal way for the text characteristics to be appliedsuccessfully in TOPIK, this study reviews how the characteristics are containedin the previous TOPIK evaluation questions. Analyzing question framework and evaluation criteria, chapter 2 examinesthe way in which text characteristics are reflected in the theoretical framewhich comprises the evaluation questions of TOPIK. The descriptions regardingtext, shown in the TOPIK evaluation framework are divided into three aspects:kinds of text, contents of text, and forms of text. Among these, only kinds oftest can be regarded to some extent as a significant factor in overall situation. Despite the meaningful existence of the kinds of texts in TOPIK, in the waysthey have presented, many problems are found out related to their conceptsand structures. Chapter 3 investigates in terms of text types and structures how the textcharacteristics appear in the evaluation questions of the 34th TOPIK. Theinvestigation can be concluded as follows. The text structures of TOPIK aresimple, largely based on linguistic data types. As to text types, they do notreflect thoroughly diverse text characteristics appeared in the process oflanguage use, in that they are given too much biased weight on certain types.

한국어능력시험은 공신력 있는 대표적인 한국어 능력 평가 수단으로서 다양한 평가 영역을 통해서 학습자들 의 한국어 능력을 종합적으로 평가해 왔는데, 그동안 한국어능력시험 평가의 틀에서는 학습자의 인지적 특성 이 중심을 이루어 왔다. 그렇지만 언어활동은 텍스트를 기반으로 하기에 한국어 능력을 적절하게 평가하기 위 해서는 언어활동의 대상으로서 텍스트가지닌 특성에 대한 체계적인 고려가 필수적이다. 본 연구는 한국어능 력시험에서 텍스트 특성을구현할 방향성 설정을 위한 기초 연구로, 그동안 한국어능력시험 평가 문항에서 텍 스트 특성이 어떻게 반영되어 왔는지를 검토해 본 것이다. 2장에서는 한국어능력시험 문항 틀과 평가 기준을 검토해 봄으로써, 한국어능력시험 평가문항을 구성하는 평 가 틀에서 텍스트 요인이 어떻게 나타나는지에 대해 살펴보았다. 한국어능력시험 평가 틀에 나타난 텍스트 관 련 기술은 텍스트 종류, 텍스트 내용, 텍스트 형태의 세측면으로 나누어 볼 수 있지만 이 중 전체적으로 의미 를 지니는 요인은 텍스트 종류뿐이며,텍스트 종류들이 제시된 방식을 보면 개념 규정 및 체계성과 관련된 문 제점이 드러난다. 3장에서는 제34회 한국어능력시험을 대상으로, 평가 문항에서 텍스트 특성이 어떻게 실현되고 있는지를 텍스 트 체재와 텍스트 유형이라는 두 가지 범주를 중심으로 고찰해 보았다. 한국어능력시험 평가 문항에서 나타나 는 텍스트 체재는 언어자료형을 중심으로 한 단순한 방식을 보이며, 텍스트 유형은 등급별 영역별로 일부 유 형에 편중된 모습을 드러내면서 언어 사용과정에서 나타나는 텍스트의 다양한 모습을 충실히 반영하지 못하 고 있다.
