The purpose of this research is to provide in-depth analysis on alienation symptom of students in physical education class of elementary school students and find ways to deal with the alienation in class. 7 students alienated in physical education class and 5 physical education specialists participated in the research. The data has been collected by in-depth interview, participant observation, and related literatures. The ground approach method has been used to identify ways to handle alienation of elementary students in physical education class in more details. Based on the research result total 99 concepts, 21 sub-categories, and 12 upper categories were deduced. For causal conditions which cause central phenomenon there were physical ability and non-preferred tendency of physical education in individual factors and characteristics of teacher and relationship with colleagues in personal relationship factors. Moreover, contextual condition giving negative influence was turned out to be the perspective on physical education. for intervening conditions which promotes interaction related to central phenomenon, there were natural environment and surrounding environment, physical condition of students, home environment, lesson style of teacher, and teacher tendency. For intersectional strategies, efforts and challenges are required for student’s perspective, provision of non-competitive assignment for teacher’s perspective, and thorough class preparation such as granting roles to each student and utilization of various tools are required. Furthermore, receptive and cooperative class environment should be made by positive remarks such as listening to student’s opinions, praising, and encouragement. As a result of handling alienation in physical education class in those ways research participants have not only shown active participation in class but they have also recognized community. Some of the students have participated in class even if passively and they also have followed regulations and rules. To prevent further alienation in physical education of elementary students home, school, and society, all of them have to pay attention and need to see class from student’s perspective. If these efforts continue we can have the true education that we pursue.

본 연구는 초등학교 체육시간에 나타나는 학생들의 소외 현상을 심층적으로 분석하고, 그러한 수업 소외의 대처방안을 알아보는 것이 목적이다. 연구 참여자는 체육수업 소외 학생 7명과 초등학교 체육전담교사 5명으로 하였으며, 심층면담과 참여관찰, 관련문서들을 통해 자료가 수집되었다. 초등학생들의 체육수업 소외에 대한 대처과정을 심층적으로 알아보기 위해 근거이론 방법을 사용하였다. 연구결과 99개의 개념, 하위범주 21개, 상위범주 12개가 도출되었다. 중심현상을 유발시키는 인과적 상황은 개인 요인의 신체능력과 체육 비선호 성향, 인간관계 요인의 교사특성과 또래와의 관계, 외부적 요인으로 수업내용과 교육환경이 나타났다. 이들에게 영향을 미치는 맥락적 상황은 부정적인 체육교과관으로 나타났으며, 중심현상과 관련하여 상호작용을 촉진하는 중재적 상황은 자연환경과 주변 환경, 학생의 건강상태, 가정 분위기, 교사의 수업 스타일과 교사성향으로 나타났다. 상호작용 전략으로는 학생 차원에서 노력과 도전이 필요하고, 교사 차원에서는 비경쟁적인 과제제시, 학생 개인 역할 부여와 다양한 기자재 활용과 같은 철저한 수업준비가 필요하다. 또, 학생들의 의견을 들어주고, 칭찬, 격려와 같은 긍정적인 발언으로 허용적이고 협동적인 수업 분위기를 만들어야 한다. 이와 같은 방법으로 체육수업 소외를 대처한 결과 연구 참여자들은 적극적 수업 참여뿐만 아니라 공동체를 인식하게 되고, 일부학생들은 수동적이나마 수업에 참여하고 규칙과 질서를 지키게 되었음을 알 수 있었다. 초등학생들의 체육수업 소외가 더 이상 일어나지 않도록 하기 위해서는 가정, 학교, 사회가 모두 함께 관심을 기울이고, 학생 입장에서 수업을 바라보는 노력이 필요하다. 이러한 노력들이 지속될 때 우리가 바라는 진정한 교육이 이루어질 수 있을 것이다.
