At the beginning of the 3rd millenium mankind lives in a state of globalization caused by a worldwide migration and its consequent mutual exchange of cultures. Caused by these epochal changes many non-Korean people immigrants live in the Korean society. For a long time Koreans assumed it for granted that they were a uniform people sharing an identical culture. This fundamental conception is not realistic any longer because Koreans are now obliged to live together with immigrants whose variety of cultures and religions exert their influence on our Korean culture. Therefore, at any rate the multi-cultural society causes a variety of problems in the world. On the one hand native inhabitants are worried about losing their traditional identity, on the other hand migrants complain that they are deprived of fundamental rights. Today the society of South Korea is increasingly confronted with these problems. Therefore Koreans need a new approach that enables them to live together peacefully in multi-cultural society. In this situation the Korean Christian and Churches are particularly challenged to develop a new model of understanding for migrants shaped by different cultures that enables us to live peacefully together in our society. Furthermore the Korean Christian should develop a community that integrates all members of society. Consequently this article aims at furthering a new approach that enables the churches to play a positive role in this new multi-cultural society with the help of their diaconical work, so that the Christian believes can help to provide in a convincing way of the life for the Korean society. In order to achieve this aim this article is based on the experience of multi-cultural society described in the Old and New Testament. Of course there are differences between a multi- cultural society as found in the Bible and our contemporary society. In spite of these differences we, an faithful christians, can receive a fundamental standard from the Biblical experience. Nevertheless this cannot mean that christians are blindly set on an ideology based on fixed religious views, but it rather enables them to achieve an identity for modern christians through exchange of views without losing basic christian positives. A fundamental solution would certainly try to integrate the migrants into the Korean society, a solution with which certain highly industrialized countries have a lot of experience, although it has not proved as a final solution. The Korean state is oriented toward a policy of Integration for migrants. Using the means of their diaconical work the christian churches can do a lot to integrate migrants within the framework of the Korean policy of integration. The churches can support these efforts with the migrants with their personal and material resources. Most of all the christians can help with their diaconical principle of God's love and justice that is revealed in the Bible. Help of this kind can make possible a multi-cultural society, I.e. a society based on solidarity and mutual influence. In this way they can play a positive role in the multi-cultural society. This might create a new model of life serving the multi- cultural society. Therefore, with their diaconal work, the christian believers and the Korean Churches should develop a community that integrates all members of society.

21세기 지구화 시대에 인류는 인구이동과 그에 상응하는 상호간 문화교류 속에 살아가고 있다. 이러한 시대적 변화로 인 해 많은 이주민들이 한국사회에 살고 있다. 그동안 우리 한국인은 단일민족의 동일한 문화를 공유하는 것이 보장되는 것 처럼 생각해왔다. 이러한 근본적인 컨셉은 더 이상 현실적이지 않다. 왜냐하면 우리는 이제 다양한 문화와 종교를 가진 이 주자들과 함께 살아가야하며, 그들의 문화가 우리문화에도 영향을 미치기 때문이다. 그래서 다문화사회에서는 다양한 문 제들이 발생한다. 한편으로 본토인들은 그들의 전통적인 정체성을 잃을까 염려하며, 이주자들은 그 사회에서 기본권리를 침해당하는 것에 불평한다. 오늘날 한국사회에서 우리는 점점 더 증가하는 이러한 문제들에 직면하고 있다. 따라서 우리 는 다문화 사회 속에서 그들과 함께 평화롭게 살수 있는 새로운 접근을 필요로 한다. 이러한 상황 속에서 한국의 신앙인과 교회들은 우리사회에서 함께 평화롭게 살수 있도록 서로 다른 문화를 가진 이주자들에 대해 변화된 새로운 인식을 발전시 켜가야 한다. 나아가 신앙인은 사회구성원 모두가 통합하는 공동체를 발전시켜야 한다. 본 논문의 목적은 다문화 사회 속에서 한국교회와 신앙인이 디아코니아활동을 통해 긍정적인 역할을 함으로써 한국사회 에 기여할 수 있는 삶의 양식을 제공하기 위함이다. 이를 위해 본 논문은, 물론 성서에 나타난 다문화 사회와 오늘날 사회 와는 차이가 있겠으나, 성서에 나타난 다문화 사회 경험으로부터 출발한다. 우리는 신앙인이기에 성서의 이러한 경험으로 부터 다문화 사회의 근본적인 잣대를 얻을 수 있다. 이는 결코 신앙인들이 맹목적으로 종교적인 관점에 고착된 이데올로 기를 형성하려는 것이 아니다. 오히려 긍정적인 신앙의 토대를 상실하지 않은 채 관점을 변화시켜 오늘날 신앙인의 정체 성을 지키기 위함이다. 따라서 오늘날 한국교회들은 다문화 사회 속에서 증가하는 문제들에 대해 신앙의 정체성을 가지고 해결하도록 노력을 기 울여야 한다. 이를 위한 하나의 근본적인 해결책은 이주자들이 한국사회에 통합하도록 시도하는 일임에 분명하다. 물론 가장 궁극적인 해결책이 아닐 수 있지만, 이러한 통합정책은 이미 선진산업국가 다문화사회에서 경험한 해결책이다. 우리 나라도 외국인주민 정책이 통합정책으로 나가고 있다. 이러한 맥락에서 신앙인과 교회의 디아코니아활동은 통합정책 틀 안에서 이주자들에게 사회에서 통합할 수 있게 도와야 한다. 이를 위해 인적 물적 자원으로 외국인주민을 지원해야 한다. 무엇보다도 교회와 신앙인은 성서에 나타난 디아코니아원리인 하나님사랑과 정의를 가지고 그들을 돌봐야 한다. 이러한 신앙적 디아코니아 돌봄이 연대성과 상호작용에 의한 돌봄으로 함께 행복한 다문화사회를 가능하게 만들어 줄 수 있다. 이처럼 한국교회는 디아코니아 활동을 통해 다문화사회에서 긍정적인 역할을 수행할 수 있다. 이것이 바로 다문화 사회에 기여하는 한국교회의 새로운 삶의 양식을 제시해 주는 것이다. 따라서 한국교회들과 신앙인은 디아코니아활동을 통해 모 든 사회구성원들을 통합시키는 공동체를 발전시켜 가야 할 것이다.
