The purpose of this study is to grope for a direction of the integration logic of the Social Studies through the critical reflection of the cause which restrict the integration logic and integration methods that have been argued in the meantime under the consciousness that the integration logic has been left out in the Social Studies curriculum. First, the absence of the integration logic was originated from the supreme scholarly identity of the certain academic world and the retardation of attitude which form the knowledge independently. For this resolution, I have critically reviewed the integration method which has been argued in the meanwhile on the basis of the perspectives of the subject matter education. Consequently, it was confirmed uncertainty of the target ability, discordance of two sources of integrative thinking, insufficiency of consideration on cognitive domains of integrative thinking, and the teleology fallacy as points at issue. This results have suggested that the integration logic should be composed in the relation among means - objective - subject and the integrative thinking as an objective is the core on the integration logic, as a medium of two criterions. Therefore, the Social Studies integration logic should be organized under the organic connection of three criterions and particularly, more positive consideration and studies about the integration logic are requested.

본 연구는 사회과 교육과정에 통합논리가 부재하다는 문제의식 아래, 통합논리를 제약하는 요인과 그간 논의되었던 통합방식에 대한 비판적 성찰을 통해 우리 사회과에 요구되는 통합논리의 방향을 모색하는데 그 목적이 있다. 먼저 통합논리의 부재는 특정 학계의 우월적인 학문적 정체성과 주체적 지식형성 태도의 지체에서 비롯되었는데, 이를 극복하기 위해 교과교육학적 관점을 토대로 사회과에서 그간 논의된 통합방식을 비판적으로 검토한 결과, 목표능력의 불명확성, 통합적 사고 두 원천의 비정합성, 통합적 사고의 인지적 측면에 대한 고려 부족, 목적론적 오류라는 문제점을 확인하였다. 이 문제점들은 사회과의 통합논리가 수단 - 목표 - 대상의 관계에서 구성되어야 함과, 특히 목표인 통합적 사고가 다른 두 준거의 매개체로서 통합논리의 핵심임을 시사한다. 따라서 사회과의 통합논리는 세 준거의 유기적 관련 하에 구성되어야 하며, 특히 그 핵심인 통합적 사고에 대한 보다 적극적인 고려와 연구가 요청된다.
