This study was conducted on the purpose of providing environment teachers with the ways to improve PCK. Education immensely depends on teachers' capability. In that sense, the study on the competence of environmental teacher is also significant in environmental education, since their ability determines its quality. As a result of the interviews and discussions on the principles with 15 environmental teachers, 2 categories of "knowledge of curriculum" that environmental teachers should have has been drawn out. What has been drawn is "curriculum restructuraion, ability of curriculum analysis". Curriculum restructuation is an independent domain when that compare environment teachers and general teachers. Ability of curriculum analysis is that whale teachers must have basic ability. We believe that the characteristics of "knowledge of curriculum" discussed in this paper is what environment teachers should have when environmental education focuses on a separate subject. Moreover, I think it is necessary to discuss how to encourage them to have such contents in the course of environment teachers' education.

본 연구에서는 15명의 환경 교사를 대상으로 면담을 통해 환경 교사의 교수내용지식(Pedagogical Content Knowledge: 이하 PCK) 중 교육과정지식을 도출한 후 연구 결과를 일반 교사의 PCK, 환경 교사 자격기준, 일반적인 환경교육자가 갖추어야 하는 능력 등과 비교해 보았다. 연구 결과 환경 교사의 교육과정지식은 “교육과정 재구조화, 교육과정 분석 능력” 등 2개의 요소로 드러났다. 교육과정 재구조화는 환경 과목을 가르치는 교사가 교사의 교육 상황(시수, 교육 여건, 주제, 철학 등)에 맞게 교육과정 전반을 재구조화 해서 장기간 교육을 하는 능력을 말하며, 교육과정 분석 능력은 앞서 제시한 교육과정 재구조화를 위해 현재의 교육과정을 잘 이해하고 분석하며, 다른 과목의 교육과정과 비교, 분석까지 할 수 있는 능력을 의미한다. 독립 과목으로서의 환경을 가르치는 교사는 PCK의 교육과정지식에 있어서 이와 같은 능력이 필수적으로 요구됨을 확인하였다. 이상의 도출된 연구 결과를 일반 교사의 PCK, 환경 교사 자격기준, NAAEE에서 제시한 환경교육자의 능력과 비교해본 결과, 일반 교사에 비해 환경 교사는 교육과정을 재구조화 하는 능력이 추가로 요구된다는 것을 확인할 수 있었고, 환경 교사 자격기준과 환경교육자의 능력 중 일부 영역에 본 연구 결과가 부합하고 있음을 확인하였다.
