In June, 1989, when the ledaing role of mission work was moving from the western to the non-western world missionaries, Manila Consultation which was held by World Evangelical Fellowship Missions Commission was held, and the topic that interested most of the people was 'non-western missionary training'. At this time, the leaders of church mission stated that missionaries should be properly trained, this is because if they are not properly trained the result of their mission would not only affect himself/herself but also to his/her family, mission team, and fellow missionaries. God's dedicated workers being dropped out in the middle of mission work, causing hardships and problems in the mission field and also this will decrease the amount of missionaries dropping out. Therefore to successfully fulfill the great task of mission, the quantity of missionaries dispatched does not matter, but the quality of the missionaries does matter, so we should focus on dispatching missionaries with quality. Moreover, as Paul used the skill of tent making in his mission work, we should train and produce missionaries with skills and specialties that this epoch requires. Accordingly, the purpose and the motive of this research is to propose a solution plan for Korea's Professional Missionary Training, their pros and cons, ability of other culture adaptation, efficient mission work and effective training solutions.

서구권으로부터 비서구권으로의 선교 중심이 서서히 넘어 오는 시점인 1989년 6월에, 세계복음주의협의회 선 교위원회(World Evangelical Fellowship Missions Commission) 에서 주관한 마닐라 회의(Manila Consultation)가 열렸다. 이 회의에서 큰 관심을 모았던 주제가 바로 비서구권 선교사 훈련이었다. 이 때, 비 서구권 교회 선교지도자들은 선교사들이 적절한 훈련을 받아야 하며 그 이유로 만일 선교사를 적절한 준비 없이 보낸다면 그 결과는 선교사 자신에게 뿐 아니라 그의 가족과 선교부와 주변 동료 선교사들에게도 어려 움과 고통을 줄 수 있다고 했다. 그동안 선교사 파송의 숫자에 치중된 선교를 해 온 한국 교회가 앞으로 어떻 게 선교를 준비하교 파송해야 하는가에 대한 좋은 교훈이 된다. 그러므로 성공적으로 선교의 대임(大任)을 완 수할 수 있으려면, 얼마나 많은 선교사를 보내느냐의 양(量)보다 얼마나 잘 준비된 선교사를 보내느냐의 질( 質)에 초점을 맞춰 선교사들을 훈련하고 파송해야 한다. 뿐만 아니라 효과적인 선교를 위해 이 시대가 요구하 는 전문성을 갖춘 선교사들을 훈련하고 양산(量産)하는 전문인 선교훈련이 절실히 요청된다. 이에 오늘날 한 국의 전문인 선교사훈련의 실태를 살펴보고 그 장단점을 점검하며 보다 나은 타문화권 적응능력과 효율적인 선교사역을 위한 효과적인 훈련방안과 전략을 찾아 해결방안을 제시하고자 함이 본 연구의 목적과 동기이다. 본 연구는 본 연구가 변화하는 새로운 시대에 전략적으로 적절한 전문인 선교를 위한 새로운 선교훈련에 대 한 제안이 되기를 기대한다. 그러나 필자의 학문적 역량의 부족과 더 많은 선교사로서의 경험을 쌓지 못함이 아쉬움으로 남는다. 이 시대 선교지의 필요에 맞는 다른 제안들은 다음의 연구자에게 남겨 놓는다. 바라기는 본 연구가 선교 현장에 적절한 전략이 되며 선교사의 질을 높이고 현지를 더 아름답게 만드는데 일조하기를 바란다
