This paper discusses philosophical foundations for Christian education, and focuses on the revealed Word of God and Christian philosophy. The educational philosophies of naturalism, pragmatism, and idealism dominate the present scene. Modern children of these views are materialism, scientism, secularism, and relativism. Against these, Christian theism is arrayed. Perhaps it is more proper to say that scientific naturalism prevails today. Here nature is complete totality of being. Man is an evolutionary result of nature and thus is essentially a part of nature. The function of education in this view is virtually nothing more than to afford man an adjustment to his environment and to make that environment the best possible. Educational humanism is closely related to naturalism. Human values are central in this view. Emphasis is placed on the classics with intellectual development as a direct corollary. Reason is at th heart of this view and the method becomes one of developing it. Humanists believe that combination of the acquisition of one's cultural heritage and modern scientific genius results in the right kind of leadership. Here, too, it is seen that God is found on the circumference of education. It is at once apparent that the above philosophies place either man or nature at the center of education. The purpose in either case is sociality or an efficient individual prepared for society. To the Christian these views are fragmentary. God stands at the center of the Christian world view. He has revealed Himself to mankind. this revelation provides the basis upon which Christian philosophy of life can be built. Such a philosophy is comprehensive enough to include all aspects of life, one of which is education, which in turn, provides guide lines for the whole educational process embracing content, methods, administration, principles, and relations. Christian educational concepts are derived directly from sources provided by Christian theology, the Bible and Christian philosophy.

이 논문은 기독교교육의 철학적 토대에 관한 문제를 다루고 있다. 자연주의와 실용주의 및 이상주의 의 교육철학이 현 시대를 지배하고 있다. 이러한 입장에서 현대의 유물주의, 과학주의, 세속주의 및 상대주의가 나타나고　있다. 그러므로 이러한 교육철학에 대항하는 기독교 신본주의 교육철학이 마 련되어야 한다. 오늘날에는 과학적 자연주의가 유행하고 있다고 말하는 것이 더욱 적절할 것 같다. 실체란 물질적인 원자의 조직을 말하는 것으로 생각되고 있다. 여기에서 자연이란 존재의 완전한 전체성인 것이다. 인 간은 자연의 진화적 산물이며, 따라서 필연적으로 자연의 한 부분이라는　것이다. 이러한 관점에서 교육의 기능은 실제로 인간을 환경에 적응시키고, 그 환경을 가능한 최선의 환경으로 만들어 주는 것 이상 아무 것도 아니다. 교육적인 인문주의는 자연주의와 밀접하게 관련되어 있다. 인문주의자들은 인간의 문화적 유산의 습득과 현대의 과학정신이 조화를 이룸으로써 올바른 종류의 지도력을 갖추게 될 것이라고 믿고 있다. 그들에게 있어 교육이란 실제로 지식의 습득과 정신적인 훈련이 되고 만다. 역시 여기에서도 하나님은 교육의 핵심에서 벗어나 있음을 보게 된다. 인문주의와 자연주의가 인간이나 자연을 교육의 중심에 둔다고 하는 점은 명백한 사실이다. 이 철학 들의 목적은 사회성을 길러주고 사회생활을 잘 해나갈 수 있는 유능한 개인을 양육하는 데 있다. 그리 스도인에게 있어서 이러한 견해들은 단편적인 것에 지나지 않는다. 기독교 신본주의 세계관의 기초는 모든 생명과 진리의 원천이 되시는 하나님 안에 있다. 그러므로 기독교 세계관의 기초는 확실히 인간 에게 자신을　계시하시는 하나님 안에서 찾아야 한다. 기독교 신본주의 세계관은 기독교 교육철학을 추출할 수 있는 철학을 개발하기 위한 한 시도이다. 하나님은 기독교 세계관의 중심부에 계신다. 그는 자신을 인간에게 계시하셨다. 이 계시가 기독교철학이 성립 될 수 있는 근거를 제공해 준다. 그러한 철학이 인생의 모든 국면을 포함하고 있다. 그　국면의 하나가 교육이다. 기독교 철학은 내용, 방법, 행정, 원리, 관계 등과 관련된　전체 교육의 과정에 대한 지침이 되는 노선을 제시해 준다. 기독교교 육의 개념은 성경, 기독교 신학, 기독교 철학에서 부터 제공된 자료에서 직접적으로 유래된 것이다.
