The purpose of this study was to extract the development characteristic and main functional space depending on the type of railroad station building and propose the arrangement pattern characteristic of traffic line and functional space depending on the railroad station line and historical type. The research and analysis result the following results. First, the railroad station building has the characteristic of the post process, in which the location of railroad station building is decided after roadbed and line type are decided. Therefore, the type of railroad station building is dependent to roadbed plan. As a result, in the type of recent railroad station building, over-railway and under-railway station are increasing because of location condition of railroad station building, connectivity to city. Second, the characteristic of functional space in railroad station building shows leisure culture such as museum or exhibiting space and foothold of local life as well as basic functional space of railroad station building. Third, the result of analyzing the satisfaction of traffic line and functional space arrangement in railroad station building revealed that users and station employees were satisfied more than normal level.

본 연구는 철도역사 유형에 따른 개발 특성과 주요 기능공간을 도출하고, 철도역사 선로 및 역사 유형에 따른 동선 및 기능공간의 배치패턴의 특성을 제시하고자 하였으며, 이를 통해 신축설계 및 역사 리모델링에 활용가능한 시사점 및 방향을 찾아내고자 하였다. 이상의 조사 분석 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 철도역사는 노반 및 선로형식이 결정되면, 철도역사의 입지를 정하는 후공정 성격을 지니고 있어 철로역사 유형은 노반계획의 종속적 위치에 있다. 그 결과 최근의 철도역사 유형은 철도역사 입지여건, 도시연계성, 선로형식, 연계교통 접근성 등의 영향으로, 철도역사는 선상, 선하역이 증가하고 있다. 둘째, 철도역사내 기능공간 특성은, 역사의 기본적 기능공간 이외에 각 지역별로 박물관 또는 전시공간 등 여객문화, 지역생활 거점으로서 철도역사의 계획특성이 부수적으로 나타나고 있다. 셋째, 철도역사의 동선 및 기능공간 배치에 대한 만족도 분석 결과, 이용객과 역무원 모두 보통이상으로 만족하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 동선 및 기능공간 배치 만족도에 영향을 미치는 주요 영향요인 도출을 위한 중회귀 분석 결과, 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 영향요소는 콘코스/맞이방으로 나타나고 있는 반면에, 상업시설과 매표소/안내시설 등에 대해 이용객과 역무원의 관점차이가 나타나고 있다.
