The purpose of this study was to analyze the image toward inventor of elementary school students. To accomplish this purpose, 120 elementary school students in 5-6th grade were selected with purposive sampling. To identify the images toward inventor DIT (Draw an Inventor Test) and DIT-C (Draw an Inventor Test-Checklist) were developed and applied as survey tool. The results of this study were as follows: First, elementary school students were recognizing Edison as typical inventor. And they regulated widely the category of inventor such as Leonardo da Vinci, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Albert Einstein, Sejong the Great, and Jeong Yagyong. Second, the typical extrinsic images toward inventor were twenties men put on lab coat and glasses with disheveled hair and beard, and pleasant or serious expression. Third, the typical internal images toward inventor were very-high intelligence level, positive attitude, and unpredictable side. Fourth, the typical images on inventor’s work were making, repairing, and doing something indoors with model, machine, tool, and measurement instrument to develop and innovate new products.

이 연구는 초등학생이 인식하는 발명가에 대한 이미지를 분석하기 위하여 수행되었 다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해서 임의 표집법으로 초등학교 5-6학년 120명을 연구 대상으로 선정하였으며, 발명가의 이미지를 알아보기 위해 DIT(Draw an Inventor Test) 및 DIT-C(Draw an Inventor Test-Checklist)를 개발하여 적용하였다. 초등학생이 인식하는 대표적인 발명가와 발명가에 대한 이미지를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초등학생은 에디슨을 가장 대표적인 발명가로 인식하고 있었다. 초등학생은 레 오나르도 다빈치, 스티브 잡스, 빌 게이츠, 아인슈타인, 세종대왕, 정약용 등을 발명가 로 인식하고 있었다. 둘째, 초등학생이 인식하는 발명가에 대한 대표적인 외적 이미지는 20대 남성으로, 실험복을 입고 안경을 쓰고 헝클어진 머리에 수염을 길렀으며, 즐겁거나 진지한 표정 을 짓고 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 셋째, 초등학생이 인식하는 발명가에 대한 대표적인 내적 이미지는 지능 수준이 매 우 높고 적극적이며, 엉뚱한 면이 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 넷째, 초등학생이 인식하는 ‘발명가가 하고 있는 일’에 대한 대표적인 이미지는 실내 에서 모형․기계․공구․측정도구를 이용하여 무엇인가를 만들고, 고치고, 일하면서 새로운 제품을 개발하고 혁신하는 것으로 확인되었다.
