The purpose of this study was to develop and investigate the effects of the Energy STEAM program based on the integrated curriculum of elementary schools. ‘The Debt Creation’ was selected for the subject of the program by analyzing the 2009 integration curriculum of Korea. In this paper, the procedure for developing the STEAM program was passed through steps of preparation, development, implementation and evaluation with the PDIE model. Twenty-one students of 2nd grade elementary school were enrolled in this study. The before and after learning, their environmental knowledge, their environmental skill, their environmental attitudes were all investigated to evaluate the program. Based on the findings of the study, major conclusions were reached as follows: First, the energy STEAM program based on the integrated curriculum of elementary schools was being developed and used for elementary school teachers. The energy STEAM program was consisted of 10 teaching-learning plans for teachers and worksheets for students. Second, the elementary-integrated curriculum has been identified as an appropriate curriculum to combine STEAM education. Third, the energy STEAM program is effective in enhancing the environmental knowledge and skills of 2nd graders of the elementary school.

이 연구의 목적은 초등학교 저학년을 대상으로 통합교과를 활용한 에너지 STEAM 교육프로그램을 개발하고 그 효과를 검증하는 데 있다. STEAM 적용 가능성, 에너지 관련성을 고려해 2009 개정 교육과정의 통합교과를 분석한 후 부채만들기를 주제로 선정하였다. 프로그램의 개발은 PDIE 모형을 기반으로 준비, 개발, 실행, 평가의 네 단계를 거쳤으며, 개발과 평가 단계에서 전문가 자문을 구해 보완하였다. 개발한 프로그램은 초등학교 2학년 한 학급을 대상으로 적용하였고 적용 전․후의 환경지식, 환경기능, 환경태도의 차이를 파악하기 위하여 t검증을 하였다. 이 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 통합교과를 활용한 10차시의 STEAM 교육프로그램이 개발되어 초등학교 저학년 학생에게도 STEAM의 교육 기회를 확대하였다. 개발된 프로그램은 교사용 교수ㆍ학습 과정안과 학생용 워크시트, 그리고 참고자료로 구성되어 있으며, STEAM 과목요소와 구성요소도 함께 제공하여 실제로 수업에 사용할 수 있도록 하였다. 둘째, 초등학교 통합교과는 STEAM 교육을 접목하기에 적절한 교과로 확인되었다. 셋째, 개발한 통합교과를 활용한 에너지 STEAM 교육프로그램은 초등학교 저학년 학생들의 환경지식과 환경기능의 함양에 효과적이었다.
