This paper examines catechism education for the adolescents. Adolescents want to confirm their self-identity. Adolescents look for meaning and expressions of their own faith. They look for someone who will help them in their quest for answer to the big philosophical, theological, and social problems of life. They are often tired of being told that if they just believe then God will work it all out. They usually want to follow the will of God for their lives, but are often at a loss to know how to find it. Those who have strong, vital faith often contagiously share their faith with peers. They are looking for ways to control all the emotions that they feel and do not understand, but that they nevertheless want to express in wholesome, acceptable ways They want to know what is right and wrong, why it is, and how to do what is right and avoid wrong. they want a faith that is theirs, that is worth living for, ultimately worth dying for. Adolescence is a time when churches find individuals open to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. It is very important that churches teach Christian education of faith to adolescents and congregations. Catechism education is very helpful that it invites the adolescents to the gospel, and influences them to form their foundation for spiritual maturity. This paper examines what we should basically understand about the adolescents, and then what the characteristics of catechism education is. The characteristics of catechism education includes the history of catechism education, the function of catechism as a book, the structure of catechism, and the importance of catechism education as a foundation of the education for the adolescents. The significance of catechism education is like as follow. The adolescents and congregations can study the whole contents of the Bible, the acquisition of the basic knowledge for their beliefs for the short period of time. Also it is vital for them to establish their systematic understanding of Christian faith, the supplying a basic key for the interpretation of the Bible, and the suggestion of the orientation for Christian spiritual life.

본 논문은 청소년의 신앙문답교육에 관해 연구한 논문이다. 청소년기의 주요 심리적 발달과업 중의 하나는 자아정체감과 가치관의 확립이다. 흔들리고 있는 청소년들에게 신앙문답 교육을 통하여 올바른 자아정체감과 가치관을 갖게 하여 하나님과 이웃과 세계 속에서 자신의 존재위치와 삶의 문제에 대한 분명한 자아의식과 더불어 이웃과 세계를 향한 자신들의 역할을 확인하고 역사의 주체로서 창조적인 삶을 살아가도록 지도해야 할 것이다. 신앙문답교육은 청소년을 복음으로 초대하고, 그들의 영적 성숙의 토대를 형성하는데 커다란 유익을 줄 수 있을 것이다. 청소년들에게 기독교 신앙의 진리를 체계 있게 교육하여 진리에 대한 기본적인 오리엔테이션을 시켜주는 작업으로서 가장 효과 있는 것이 신앙문답 교육이다. 교회는 신앙문답을 통하여 청소년들로 하여금 기독교 신앙성숙의 특징인 영적 자율성, 영적 통전성, 영적 안정성, 그리고 지식의 현명한 사용을 확대시켜나가야 할 것이다. 본 논문은 청소년에 대해 기본적으로 이해해야 할 것은 무엇인지를 살펴보고, 이어서 구체적으로 신앙문답교육은 어떠한 특징을 가지고 있는지를 탐구해 보고자 한다. 신앙문답교육의 특징에 대하여서는 신앙문답교육의 역사, 책으로서의 신앙문답교육서의 기능, 신앙문답교육서의 교수학적 구조를 살피고, 청소년의 교육의 기초로서의 신앙문답 교육의 중요성을 밝히고자 한다. 신앙문답교육은 역사적으로 사도들의 가르침으로부터 시작하여 웨스터민스터 신앙문답 및 최근의 신앙문답교육에 이어지고 있다. 책으로서의 신앙문답교육서는 기독교의 신앙을 가르치는 책으로서, 신앙고백서로서, 예전서로서, 목회상담서로서의 기능을 갖는다. 신앙문답교육서의 교수학적 구조는 질문하는 내용에 대한 답을 제공하는 형식을 갖추고 있으며, 조직적 체계와 윤곽을 갖추고 있어 학습 목표나 교과과정을 암시하며, 본보기적인 것으로서 교수에 있어 가장 근본적인 것들을 담고 있다. 또한 성경과의 관련하여 성경의 핵심 내용을 담고 있다. 신앙문답 교육의 중요성은 신앙의 기본지식 습득으로서 성경 전체의 내용을 비교적 짧은 시간에 배우게 할 수 있다는 점과 신자의 신앙관의 확립 곧 기독교 신앙에 대한 체계를 확립시켜 주는 점이며, 또한 성경해석의 기본열쇠를 제공해 주며 신앙적 삶의 지침을 제공한다는 점이다. 우리는 지금 한국교회의 청소년들과 신자들의 신앙교육을 위해 기독교 신앙문답교육의 전통성을 회복시키고, 나아가서 바로 이 신앙문답 교육에서부터 교회의 신앙문답교육과 기독교교육의 이론을 새롭게 정립해 나가야 할 것이다.
