The purpose of this study was to find out the social support plays as a mediatory factor when children's rejection sensitivity effects one's self-esteem. For this research, the Korean Children's Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire(K-CRSQ), the Social Support Scale, and the Self-Esteem Inventory were administered to 427 students in the 5th and 6th grade in elementary schools located in Gyeongsangnam-do. The results were as follows: First, rejection sensitivity and social support showed a significant negative correlation. Rejection sensitivity and self-esteem also showed a significant negative correlation. Second, social support and self-esteem showed a significant positive correlation. Third, while attempting to understand the effect that rejection sensitivity has on self-esteem, social support is considered as a parameter to cause a link between rejection sensitivity and self-esteem. Thus, self-esteem is directly influenced by rejection sensitivity at the same time as social support operates indirectly in terms of influence. The results were compared with previous studies and the implication and limitation were discussed.

본 연구는 아동의 거부민감성이 자아존중감에 영향을 미칠 때 사회적 지지가 매개변인으로써 역할을 하는 지를 알아보기 위해 실시되었다. 이를 위해 경상남도 소재 초등학교 5, 6학년을 대상으로 아동용 거부민감성질문지, 사회적 지지 지각 척도, 자아존중감 검사를 실시하였다. 그 결과 거부민감성과 사회적 지지, 거부민감성과 자아존중감 간에는 부적 상관, 사회적 지지와 자아존중감 간에는 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 거부민감성이 자아존중감에 영향을 미치는 경로에 있어서 사회적 지지의 매개효과를 검증한 결과, 사회적 지지는 거부민감성과 자아존중감 간의 관계를 매개 하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 거부민감성이 자아존중감에 직접적인 영향을 미침과 동시에 사회적 지지를 매개로 하여 자아존중감에 간접적 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있다. 마지막으로 연구결과를 기존의 연구결과와 비교하고 연구의 의미와 제한점을 논의하였다.
