The use of the body images is to bring forth the cultural discourses and identity issues at a certain time period in the history of art. The article start back from 1960's early video art considering it as the origin of Media Art and also from the viewpoint that both shares the common aesthetic characteristics: ephemeral, process-oriented and virtual. Although there have been many re-actions to posthuman perspectives, the mediation of the body image in media art already tells human conditions beyond their biological status. The research exemplified artists' works by investigating issues around posthuman conditions such as the expansion of the body, blur of the boundary between the human and the machine and networked and distributed body.

본 논고는 60년대 이후 비디오 아트에서 부터 출발해서 현대까지, 신체 이미지의 미디어화를 통해 정체성 과 사회문화적 담론들을 표출해 왔던 미디어 아트를 연구 범위로 한다. 소멸성과 가상성, 행위 중심성을 띄고 있는 미디어 아트 작품을 예로 들어 초기 미디어 아트가 매개하는 신체와 인간성에 대한 이슈들을 돌아보고, 나아가 기술 및 과학의 영향으로 발전된 포스트휴머니즘이라는 새로운 주체모델과 인간성에 대 한 담론이 형성되는 과정을 소개한다. 포스트휴머니즘에 대한 입장과 반응들은 여러 가지로 해석되며 혼 재되고 있지만 미디어 아트에서 다루어지는 신체의 이미지는 전통적인 생물학적 인간의 조건 이상을 이미 이야기한다. 이러한 맥락에서 제시되는 담론과 현상적 의미를 근거로 하여, 오늘날 미디어 아트에서 매개 되는 신체의 이미지를 포스트휴머니즘의 입장에서 '몸의 탈물질화와 확장과 변이', '개조, 삽입, 성형, 유전 자 조작', 그리고 '몸의 탈경계'로 유형화 한 뒤 관련 작품 예시를 들어 정리 분석해 보았다.
