The Mediating effects of Self-esteem on the Relationships between Heavy academic demands to Elementary school students and Academic burnout

This study investigated how heavy academic and academic burnout relate and examined the mediating effects of self-esteem on the relationships between heavy academic of elementary school students and academic burnout. The subjects were a total of 261 students attending sixth grade students of elementary schools located in Gyeonggi-do, Incheon, Seoul and Chungcheong-do. The reliability analysis of descriptive statistics and measure in regard to the subordinate variables was conducted. Pearson’s product moment correlation analysis was conducted in order to identify relationships between research variables. In addition, the mediated model of self-esteem between heavy academic and academic burnout was verified by using the structural equation. The results of the study are as follows: First, there was a significant moderate negative correlation between heavy academic and self-esteem, Second, there was a significant moderate positive correlation between heavy academic and academic burnout, Third, there was a significant moderate negative correlation between self-esteem and academic burnout, and Fourth, it was shown that in the process through which heavy academic was influencing academic burnout, self-esteem had a part mediation effect.
