The purpose of this study was to explore the direction for effective career education by analyzing the factors related to elementary school students' career maturity. The subjects of this study were composed of 141 fifth grade students and 108 sixth grade students. The data was analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation. The results of this study were as follows. First, the development of elementary school students' career maturity was below the high level. Second, the career maturity of elementary school students was related to the school grade and condition of home economics. However, it was not related to the gender and region. The grade was related to only self-understanding. Third, the career maturity of elementary school students was positive correlated to job planning, self-understanding, attitude toward work.

본 연구는 초등학교 5~6학년 학생의 진로성숙 수준과 진로성숙도와 관계가 있는 변인을 조사함으로써 진로교육의 출발점을 진단하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초등학생의 진로성숙도는 계획성, 자기이해, 일에 대한 태도, 독립심 모두에서 보통 정도의 수준이었다. 둘째, 초등학생의 진로성숙에 영향을 미치는 유의미한 변인은 학업성적과 가정경제 수준이었고, 유의미하지 않은 변인은 성별, 거주 지역이었다. 그러므로 진로 교육의 효율적 시행을 위해서는 학업 성적과 가정경제 수준을 고려한 프로그램 마련이 필요함을 알 수 있다. 학년은 자기이해 요인에만 영향을 미치는 변인이었다. 셋째, 진로성숙도의 하위 요인인 계획성, 자기이해, 일에 대한 태도, 독립심은 유의미한 정적 상관을 보였다.
