Korea and Mongolia share a strong and rapidly growing trade and economic relationship. Further strengthening and deepening this relationship is a major priority for both countries, with both governments committed to sustaining the impressive trade and investment performance achieved in the past fifteen years. Mongolia's adjustment process has been smooth compared with other transition economies and has been less costly in terms of output loss than those of countries of former Soviet Union that have similar geographical and historical features. While Mongolia's relatively strong output performance can be partly explained by favorable economic and noneconomic initial conditions, the early adoption of appropriate adjustment policies and market -oriented reforms is likely to have played a key role in supporting the prompt recovery of growth. Korea has actively supported Mongolia's reform, open-door policy and economic development, providing with economic development cooperation fund and various kinds of aids, taking into account the symbolic significance of Mongolia and the potentialities for further cooperation with Mongolia as a country of Northeast Asia. Now Korea is the fourth largest trade partner, the third largest foreign direct investment country, and the third largest tourism country of Mongolia.

몽골의 시급한 경제발전 전략을 위해서는 다음과 같은 전략들이 필요하다. 첫째, 철도․고속도로․공항․전기/수도와 같은 사회간접자본에 투자하기 위한 외국자본과 기술의 도입이다. 이를 위한 정부정책이 일관성이 있고, 외국인 투자자나 국가에 매력적인 정책대안을 제시해야 한다. 둘째, 외국파견 노동자의 인력풀을 만들어 업종별 또는 기술별로 조직화를 하여 그들에게 기업을 설립하도록 하는 정부정책을 강력하게 추진할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 몽골의 풍부한 지하자원을 조속히 개발하여 산업발전의 기틀을 만들어야 한다. 지하자원을 조속히 개발하기 위해서는 협력당사국의 사정을 고려하여 시급하게 개발할 수 있는 한국과 같은 나라와 협력을 맺을 필요가 있다. 넷째, 외환보유고와 자본축적을 위한 수출촉진정책이다. 수출을 촉진하기 위해서는 목축산업의 가공산업을 개발하고 외국파견근로자를 활용하는 기업화, 지하자원의 개발 등의 경제정책이 필요하다. 몽골은 낙후되어 있는 산업화의 발전을 가속화하는 경제발전 전략이 필요하며, 빠른 속도로 개발하여 인접한 중국이나 러시아의 산업내지 경제를 앞지를 수 있도록 하지 않으면, 몽골은 영원히 중국이나 러시아 등의 경제적으로 예속된 국가가 될 수밖에 없다 선진국과는 달리 몽골에서 경제의 발전정도가 초보단계에 불과하고 있는데, 본 연구는 몽골 경제와 산업이 빠른 속도로 현대화시키기 위한 각종 경제발전 전략을 추진하고자 하는데 있다.
