'The Study of Environmental Picture Books on the Water Cycle' is a study of picture books with environmental themes for young schoolchildren, and also is a case study of the publication of 'The Journey of Three Water Drops'.This study aims to analyse picture books for schoolchildren related to the theme of the water cycle, and consequently this study presents the actual process of picture-book production. In total, 302 picture books with environmental themes have been investigated, and those books have been categorized according to their main themes and subjects. For the study of picture books on the water cycle have been chosen from conservation of resources, and are analysed in terms of their illustrations and contents. This study does not intend to view the theme of the water cycle from a scientific perspective. Rather, much more emphasis is placed on the presentation of the theme through the picture-book format. For this aim, the following questions were asked: 'The Journey of Three Water Drops', published in 2006, is presented and analysed as a case study, and its planning, contents, character and illustration, appendix, dummy book, publication and evaluation have been studied and analysed. In conclusion, picture books on the protection of natural resources such as water should be developed more vigorously, and it is expected that these picture books would become a good source of research for the related people.

물의 순환을 소재로 한 환경 그림책 제작연구’는 저학년 어린이를 위한 환경 그림책중 물과 관련된 연구이며, ‘물방울 세 친구의 여행’의 출판 제작 사례연구이다. 연구목적은 어린이 환경 그림책 중에서 물의 순환과 관련된 저학년 어린이 그림책을 분석하여 그 내용을 살펴보며 실제 그림책 제작과정을 제시하여 관련 연구에 도움이 되고자 했다. 연구범위는 어린이 환경 그림책 302권으로 그림책의 내용을 주제별로 분류하여 조사하였다. 환경 그림책의 내용으로는 지구의 자원보호, 우리의 환경을 깨끗하게 유지하기(환경오염 포함), 나무와 식물보호 및 지구에 사는 동물보호와 에너지와 재활용으로 분류하여 조사하였다. 물의 순환을 소재로 한 환경 그림책 연구에서는 지구의 자원보호 중 물의 순환을 일러스트 표현과 내용 유형으로 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 어린이 환경 그림책 중에서 물의 순환을 과학적 측면이 아닌 지구의 자원 보호를 중심으로 한 그림책 중심으로 연구하였다. 2006년 출판된 그림책, ‘물방울 세 친구의 여행’을 제작 사례로 기획, 그림책 구성 및 내용, 캐릭터 및 일러스트, 부록디자인과 더미 북(편집), 평가 및 출판 등으로 나누어 살펴본 환경 그림책 출판과정이 포함된다. 결론으로 물 등 지구의 자원을 보호하기‘를 주제로 한 그림책이 더 개발돼야 할 것으로 분석되었으며 이는 관련한 분야의 사람들에게는 좋은 연구 콘텐츠가 될 것이다.
