Onomatopoeia is a word that imitates the sound of a person, animal, object or other sounds in nature. There is a large quantity of onomatopoeia in both Korean and Chinese. Korean belongs to agglutinative languages, whereas Chinese belongs to isolated languages. Therefore, there are great many differences in usage of onomatopoeia in Korean and Chinese, which might cause difficulties for foreign language leamers. This paper gives a contrastive analysis of the similar and different features of onomatopoeia in Korean and Chinese in terms of grammar and semantics, aiming to offer some help to foreign language learners in both KoreaandChina.
The main contents include: Chapter one introduces the research purpose and the grammatica1 domain of onomatopoeia, and generalizes the relevant research findings of former studies. Chapter two and three analyzes the grammatical and semantic features of onomatopoeia in Korean and Chinese. Chapter four is a conclusion, summing up and putting forward questions for further study.

한국어

의성어란 사람， 동물， 사물 그리고 자연계의 소리를 모방하는 말이다. 한국어와 중국어에는 모두 상당한 수량의 의성어가 있다. 두 언어는 각각 교착어와 고립어로서 서로 다른 계통에 속하는 언어들이다. 이로 인해 한·중 의성어의 양상이 많이 다를 수밖에 없다. 그렇기 때문에 한국 사람이 중국어를 배울 때나 중국 사람이 한국어를 배울 때 많은 어려움이 있다. 본 논문은 문법과 의미 측면에서 한·중 의성어 각각의 특징을 찾아내고 비교를 통해서 양자가 지니는 공통점과 차이점을 밝히기로 한다. 이를 통해 한국인의 중국어 학습 및 중국인의 한국어 학습을 위한 의성어 교육의 기초 자료를 마련하는 데 일조하고자 한다. 본고에서 논의를 전개하는 순서는 다음과 같다.
1 장에서는 연구의 목적을 밝히고 선행연구를 검토하여 정리하고 의성어의 문법 범주문제를 제시한다. 2 장과 3 장에서는 문법 의미 영역별로 한·중 의성어의 특징을 분석한다 .4장에서는 지금까지의 논의를 정리하여 결론을 제시하고 앞으로의 연구방향을 제시한다.
