The purpose of this study is to investigate and make an analysis of the needs of teachers close to retirement for intergenerational education in which the teacher's knowledge and expertise can be used for the youth to be harmonized with the old. This study explores the issues on what are the needs of teachers close to retirement in teaching the youth as part of intergenerational education, and what are the socio-economic variables in the needs of intergenerational education between teachers close to retirement and the youth, and what are the differences between the variables. The result of this study reveals that most teachers close to retirement have strong wishes to participate in the intergenerational education in most fields including after school teaching and volunteering activities for the youth. The study says that the use of retired teachers for intergenerational education would be meaningful and essential. Some policy proposal on inter-generational education were added to the conclusion.

본 연구는 고령화 사회에서의 세대간 조화와 이를 통한 평생학습사회 구현을 위한 방편의 하나로 ‘세대간 교육’에 교원들의 전문성을 활용할 수 있도록 청소년을 대상으로 하는 퇴직준비교원들의 1ㆍ3세대간 교육 요구를 조사하여 분석하고자 한 것이다. 이를 위하여 퇴직준비교원의 청소년에 대한 세대간 교육 요구는 무엇이며, 해당 요구는 인구통계학적 변인에 따라 어떻게 다른가? 를 연구문제로 상정하고, 세대간교육의 당사자로서 퇴직준비교원을 주 대상으로 하되, 보다 입체적이고 체계적인 조사를 위하여 세대간교육의 수요자로 상정한 청소년과 세대간교육의 관리자로 상정한 교육행정공무원집단이 비교 대상으로 고려되었다. 설문조사를 활용하여 수집된 자료의 분석은 기술적 통계치를 산출하여 자료의 일반적인 분포를 확인하고 교육요구에 대한 현재와 앞으로의 기대치간 차이 및 대상집단 간 또는 배경변인에 따른 차이 등의 검증을 실시하였다. 조사 분석된 결과는 퇴직준비교원들을 비롯한 세대간 교육에의 참여 당사자집단 모두가 방과 후 교육활동이나 사회교육봉사활동 등 대부분의 조사 항목에서 연구자가 제시한 세대간 교육 내용에 대하여 높은 교육요구를 보였고 평생학습사회 실현과 평생교육 활성화에 퇴직교원의 활용이 긴요함을 나타내는 것으로 확인하였다. 아울러, 본 연구결과에 기초하여 보다 효율적인 평생교육활동의 수행을 위한 세대간 교육 전담기관의 지정 및 퇴직교원의 교육적 역량강화를 위한 퇴직 전 교육 등 정책적인 고려도 필요하다.
