In this paper we analysed the process of cooperative learning in elementary physical education with a view to understanding its effectiveness, meaning and characteristics. Carrying out this study, collecting and analysing the materials, we employed the method of ethnography, which is known as one of the qualitative study methods. From this study resulted the following conclusions: 1.In the middle of the process of the cooperative learning the learners began to immerse themselves in the cooperative learning, in which they could perform their learning without the intervention of their teacher more successfully than in their usual learning. 2.Compared with the usual learning, the cooperative learning made possible the high MET thanks to the cooperative effect. 3.During the cooperative learning, the learners, whether they belong to high level or low level, succeeded in performing their cooperative mutual dialogues very frequently by giving advices and comforts, by questioning and answering and sharing their enthusiasm for the cooperative learning.

이 연구의 목적은 초등 체육수업에서 STAD협동학습에 대한 과정을 문화 기술적으로 분석하여 현장자료로 사용하는 데 있다. 연구대상은 경기도 부천 시 신도시에 소재한 B초등학교 1개 반을 임의 선정하여 심층면담, 참여관찰, 학생반성일지 등의 자료를 수집하였고 이를 토대로 수업 과정 분석, 운동참여시간(MET) 분석, 대화 방향 분석, 귀납적 범주분석을 실시하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻게 되었다. 첫째, 수업과정 측면에서 협동학습은 수업 중반 이후에 집단 내 상호협력이 활발하게 이루어지고 교사와 학생 간의 상호작용이 빈번하게 이루어지는 수업임을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 협동학습에서 운동참여시간(MET)이 높은 이유는 협력집단 내에서 학습에 대한 높은 책무성과 수업에 집중할 수 있는 협력 분위기의 결과로 본다. 셋째, 상호작용 형태 측면에서 협동학습에서 대화의 방향은 상수준 아동에서 하수준 아동으로, 하수준 아동에서 상수준 아동으로 상호작용이 빈번히 이루어졌다. 대화 내용 측면에서는 지도조언, 격려, 사과, 질문, 위로 등의 긍정적인 상호작용이 나타난 이유는 공동의 목표와 개인의 목표를 가진 집단 내 협력구조에 기인한 것으로 본다. 넷째, 협동학습에 대한 아동의 반응 측면에서 상수준 아동들은 수업에 대한 불만과 보람, 가차와 의미 등을 발견할 수 있었고, 중 수준, 하 수준, 아동들은 협동학습이 부담도 되지만 일반 수업보다 협력체제로 이루어지는 점에서 만족스러움을 표현하였다.
