From the first term in 2010, there are two alterations in Moral Subject Education in Korea. First, students in the 7th grade shall be learned according to new curricula, and second, they shall study with a new text book passed by the approval system. By KICE, the seven text books passed the test in the approval system. The approval system of text book allows the diversity of interpretation of it. Accordingly, teachers have a right to choose the most appropriate text book among seven text books. But, the importance of critical assessment of text book is effective, still. In this paper, it will be discussed whether the explanation about 'the origin and necessity of the state' in 'My life and State' is correct or not. That theme is related with the essence of the state, id est. the desirable picture of the state. In moral subject education, the teaching and presenting of a sound outlook on the state have been a core educational duty. Especially, Aristotle's state theory is noted by communitarians and republicans recently. Then, the explanations about it in seven text books almost are not correct. This may bring a negative impression to the validity of moral citizen education in moral subject education. This paper points some problems within the explanation of 'the origin and necessity of the state', focused on Aristotle's state theory, and presents the direction of correction.

2010년 1학기부터 중학교 도덕과교육에는 두 가지 큰 변화가 있다. 하나는 2007년 개정 도덕과교육과정에 근거한 새로운 도덕교과서를 공부한다는 점이고, 다른 하나는 도덕교과서 선정 제도가 국정에서 검정으로 변화함에 따라 각 학교마다 서로 다른 도덕교과서를 공부하게 되었다는 점이다. 교육과정평가원은 2007년 개정 도덕과교육과정에 근거한 중1 도덕교과서를 모두 7종 선정하였다. 각 학교는 도덕 교사의 주도하에 7종의 도덕교과서를 분석하고 평가하여 1종의 교과서를 해당 학교의 도덕교과서로 채택한다. 검정으로 교과서 선정 제도가 변화하였다고 하더라도 학교 도덕 교육에서 도덕 교과서가 차지하는 비중은 여전히 크다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 교과서 분석 작업의 중요성도 마찬가지로 여전히 유효하다고 볼 수 있다. 본 논문은 7종의 중1 도덕교과서에 나타난 ‘대단원 Ⅲ. 나의 삶과 국가’ 중 ‘국가의 기원과 필요성’에 대한 아리스토텔레스의 주장과 관련된 내용 서술의 문제점을 지적한다. 대단원 Ⅲ.은 넓게 보아 국가 관련 단원, 정치 윤리 단원 혹은 도덕적 시민 교육 관련 단원이라고 볼 수 있는데, 그 동안 도덕과교육의 정체성과 관련된 논쟁에서 도덕과교육이 사회과교육과 차별성이 없다는 지적을 받는 부분이었다. 따라서 내용 서술의 정확성과 엄밀성에 대한 남다른 관심이 필요한 부분이다. 특히, ‘국가의 기원과 필요성’ 제재는 국가의 존재 이유 혹은 국가의 본질을 다루는 부분으로서 바람직한 국가의 모습, 국가의 역할, 바람직한 국가관, 애국심, 시민불복종의 근거 등 정치 윤리 교육의 이론적 근저를 이루는 것이기 때문에 내용 서술에 대한 비판적 검토는 특히 중요하다고 할 수 있다.
