A Study on the Realities and Preventive Strategies of Middle School Student Violence - focused on comparison of understanding between teachers and students -

To experience school violence during adolescence causes to hinder personality development and prevents students from obtaining proper values. The purpose of this paper is to compare and analyze the understanding of both teachers and students about school violence and then to suggest strategies which may be helpful to prevent or eradicate school violence. The result of the study is summarized like this. Boys are likely to experience and witness school violence more often than girls. The frequency rates are higher in the order of boys' middle school, boys' and girls' middle school, and girls' middle school. The types of violence which students have experienced are listed from top to bottom in the order of bullying, lingual and psychological violence, trivial assault, and extortion of money or other things. I can suggest some advices on the basis of the study. First, there should be an institutional device or system which protects the students who hint or share the information about school violence so that those students do not have trouble having their school life with other students. Second, students should be educated with some programs which can help them feel and act more gently. Third, teachers should pay more attention to students.
