The Effects of Korean High School Students' English Vocabulary and Pattern Grammar Learning through a Corpus-based Approach.

This paper examines the effects of a corpus-based English learning among Korean high school students. The subjects studied six vocabularies and six pattern grammars over a period of six weeks. The experimental group did collaborative activities with the materials extracted from the COBUILD corpus, while the control group was given the teacher's explanation in a traditional way of language teaching. As a result, the experimental group outperformed the control group and the experimental group got more progress in the area of vocabulary than in that of patten grammar. Also, the corpus-based learning was more effective to high-level students than to
low-level students. In the survey, students answered that a corpus-based language learning facilitated noticing and identifying the target form and encouraged them to participate in learning more actively.
