The objective of this paper is threefold: to review the traditional role of peace in the economic context, analyzing it as part of social capital and as regional public goods in the light of growing integration; to report on the eyes of the world why the East Asia region is crucial in the globalization panorama; and to analyze the challenges of holding a peace environment in East Asia. This research is premised on the notion of complementarity between peace and prosperity and highlights the fact that peace is a necessary condition for economic growth. In this paper I have outlined the major challenges for the East Asian countries ending on an upbeat remark about the challenges and the responsibilities of the three leading countries toward the world, specially the poor area of the planet. In those points I emphasize the need of a peaceful environment in the region on the way to a formal regionalism

본 논문은 세 가지 목적을 가지고 있다. 1)경제적 맥락에서 평화의 전통적 역할을 검토하고, 2) 증대하는 통합의 관점에서 사회자본의 일부로서의 그것과 지역적 공공재로서 분석하며, 3) 왜 동아시아 지역은 세계화 현상에 있어 중대한 지역인가를 세계의 시각에서 파악하고자 한다. 또한 동아시아에서의 평화환경을 유지하는데 도전이 되는 요소들을 분석한다. 이 연구의 전제는 평화와 번영간의 상호보완성 이라는 관점에서 파악하고자 하며, 평화는 경제성장에 필수적요건이라는 사실에 초점을 맞추고자 한다. 본 논문을 통해 세계, 특히 지구상의 가난한 지역을 향해 뻗어가는 동아시아의 세 개의 주요 국가들의 의무와 도전에 관한 낙관적인 견해에 회의를 표시하는 동아시아 국가들에 대한 도전에 대해 개괄하였다. 이와 같은 논의를 통해 동아시아에서의 평화적 환경의 필요성을 공식적 지역주의를 지향하는 방식으로 제시하고 이를 강조할 필요가 있다.
