This article suggests an artistic approach toward Christian education, critically reflecting on the contemporary approach that emphasizes scientistic and efficient education. In order to propose the artistic approach, this article first introduces the theological aesthetics that shape the dialogue between theology and aesthetics. The theological aesthetics explores the relationship between God as the ultimate Beauty and the human as the image of the Beauty. Therefore, beauty is placed in the movement between the ultimate Beauty and human beauty. In light of theological aesthetics, Christian education helps humans as artists sing a beautiful song of/as expressions of God’s Beauty in this world. In other words, Christian education plays the role of creating and recreating new artistry that harmonizes Beauty with beautiful experiences as human stories. This artistic approach reconceptualizes “Christian education” as “art theology” that promotes an interaction between the generalized theology and the embodied practices. In addition, this artistic approach describes teaching and learning as a process that creates artistic rhythm between teacher and learners or among learners, and understands the Christian curriculum as a journey that looks for artistic visions that harmonize subject matter, educational environment, and educational evaluation. In short, Christian education guides people as artists to sing poetic visions as God’s songs in a common rhythm in this world.

이 논고는 교육의 체계성과 효율성을 강조하는 현대 기독교교육의 접근방법론들을 비판적으로 성찰한 후 새로운 대안으로서 기독교교육의 예술적 접근을 제안한다. 이 논고는 기독교교육을 예술과 아름다움의 관점에서 접근하기 위해 먼저 신학과 미학의 대화로서 신학적 미학을 소개한다. 신학적 미학은 궁극적 아름다움인 하나님과 인간들의 미적 경험들의 상호 관계성을 연구한다. 그러므로 신학적 미학은 아름다움의 개념을 하나님과 인간의 하나 됨을 향한 운동으로 정의한다. 아름다움의 형상을 지닌 인간들은 하나님의 궁극적 아름다움에 비추어 세상을 아름답게 변화시킬 수 있는 예술가들이다. 이러한 아름다움의 개념에 비추어 볼 때, 기독교교육은 예술가인 인간이 하나님의 아름다움을 공동의 운율에 맞춰 세상에서 노래하는 예술로 정의될 수 있다. 다시 말해, 기독교교육은 하나님의 이야기인 예술적 영감과 인간들의 이야기인 예술적 삶을 연결하여 세상을 아름다운 예술 작품으로 계속 창조하고 재창조하는 예술적 행위이자 과정이다. 기독교교육은 추상적인 신학과 구체적인 인간 삶의 상호작용을 통한 새로운 신학들과 실천들을 끊임없이 창조해 나가는 예술신학이다. 이러한 예술적 접근은 교수학습과정을 교사와 학습자의 하나 됨의 리듬을 취하는 예술로 이해하고 기독교교육과정을 교육의 내용, 환경, 방법, 그리고 평가의 조화를 창조해 가는 예술적 비전을 찾아 떠나는 아름다운 여행으로 정의한다.
