The purpose of this Study is to set a identity for the elective subjects of Home Ecomomics Science at a high school and improve the overall curriculum of the topic, objective, content, teaching․learning methods and assesment methods in relation to changing subject name. To achieve this purpose of this study, review of historical development and international overview of the elective-centered curriculum, a questionnaire for analysis of needs and problems. Curriculum revision directions on this study are followings; First, the elective subjects' name is changed based on leading results, which the elective subjects have a sequence and relation with Home Economics subject, a basic national common subject, and then play a role as liberal education. Third, contents of the elective subjects are organized to be parts(large part, midium part) and the contents of the parts same as at the present. Based on the minimal essential elements of learning, the basic, common and universal contents should be selected well and the quantity of learning and the contents' level and range should be optimized. Fourth, the revised curriculum should be reflected national․social needs and situation by industrial development and occupation change. Fifth, to enhance students' interests about class the revised curriculum could be focused on contents that related with career preparation and real life. Sixth, to minimized current curriculum' problems, school conditions like as supply of the elective subject teacher or facilities should be considered. The results provide basic data for education policy by outlining the direction and range of the high school elective subjects of Science Also, this study contributes to the stabilization of the new curriculum at participating schools by providing criteria for textbook development and a support strategy for the new curriculum.

고등학교 선택 중심 교육과정의 경우 2007년 개정 교육과정에서의 일반 선택 과목/ 심화 선택 과목의 구조를 선택 과목의 구조로 조정하고, 2009년 미래형 교육과정 개정에서는 생활․교양군으로 편제되는 등 교육과정 구조가 급변하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 고등학교 기술․가정의 선택과목인 가정과학 과목의 경우 학교 현장에서의 선택율을 높이고 경쟁력을 제고할 수 있는 방안을 모색하기 위한 연구로 다음과 같은 결론이 도출되었다. 첫째, 제1차 ～2007년 개정 교육과정의 변천 과정을 살펴볼 때 가정과학의 경우 변화하는 사회와 가정생활의 변화, 웰빙(well-being) 추구, 가정학의 국가․사회에 대한 역할 등을 반영하여 보다 실제적인 내용으로 구성하여 개인의 전 생애에 걸쳐 살아가야 할 삶에 대한 조망을 할 수 있는 내용으로 구성할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 국외 교육과정을 살펴본 결과 가정과학은 가족생활에서 일어나는 모든 문제를 스스로 해결해 나갈 수 있는 능력, 가족 구성원과 사회 구성원이 함께 더불어 살아갈 수 있는 역량을 길러 주기 위해 개인의 일생과 가족, 지역 사회, 직업과의 연계성을 가지도록 목표를 설정한 국제적 동향을 반영할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 가정과학에 대한 교사 및 전문가, 학생을 대상으로 가정과학 교육과정 내용의 중요도에 대한 설문 조사를 한 결과, 학생들의 독립된 개인으로서 그리고 가족 구성원, 사회 구성원으로서 살아갈 수 있는 힘을 길러 줄 수 있는 교육 내용으로 재구성할 필요가 있다. 넷째, 교사 및 학생을 대상으로 대영역별 수업에서 효과적인 교수․학습 방법 및 교수․학습 자료에 대한 설문 조사 결과, 교육의 현실을 감안한 교수․학습 방법이 고안되어야 하며 포괄적이며 일반적으로 진술되어 있는 내용을 영역별 특성을 반영하여 보다 상세한 안내를 요구하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
