The purpose of this study was to provide supporting data for children's direction in clothing behavior through identifying the relation between the personality and clothing behavior of the elementary school students. The results from this study were as follows. First, correlation analysis between personality and clothing behaviour (stability, consideration, and activity) showed that they are significantly correlated at 1% level. The 1) interest and 2) management among the clothing behavior turned out to be significantly correlated with 1) stability and 2) control, consideration, and sociality respectively. Also confirmity (a clothing behavior) was found to be related to consideration, while psychological dependance is to stability and control Second, multiple regression analysis revealed that stability and control influenced the whole clothing behavior. That was, emotionally stable, progressive, and self-ruling children tend to express themselves through clothing and to be interested in clothing as well. Third, further multiple regression analysis showed that interest was affected by stability, which means that emotionally stable and quiet students were more interested in choice and use of clothing than the other student group. And management was significantly affected by consideration. Fourth, confirmity in the clothing behavior was also affected by consideration in the personality. And psychological dependance in the clothing behavior is attributable to stability and control in the personality. To sum up, children's clothing behaviour was significantly affected by their personality traits in some way or another.

이 연구는 초등학생의 성격특성과 의복행동과의 관계를 구명하기 위하여 상관관계를 분석하고 성격특성이 의복행동에 미치는 영향을 살펴봄으로써, 초등학생의 의생활지도에 관한 기초 자료를 제공하는데 목적이 있다 첫째, 초등학생의 성격특성과 의복행동의 관계를 분석한 결과 성격특성과 전체 의복행동은 성격특성 중 안정성, 지배성, 사려성, 활동성과 1%수준에서 유의했다. 의복행동 중 흥미성은 성격특성의 안정성과, 의복행동 중 관리성은 성격특성의 지배성, 사려성, 사회성과 1%수준에서 유의했다. 의복행동 중 동조성은 성격특성 중 사려성과, 의복행동 중 심리적 의존성은 성격특성의 안정성, 지배성과 1%수준에서 유의했다. 둘째, 초등학생의 성격특성 변인이 의복행동의 변인에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해서 변인들 간의 다중회귀분석을 한 결과, 전체 의복행동에 유의한 영향을 미치는 변인은 안정성, 지배성이며, 이는 정서적으로 안정적이고 진취적이며 주도력 있는 성격의 특성을 지닌 아동들이 의복을 통해 자신을 표현하고 착용하는데 관심이 높다는 것을 의미한다. 셋째, 의복행동에 대한 각각의 요소들에 대해 다중회귀분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 의복행동 중 흥미성에 대해서는 안정성이 1%수준에서 유의했다. 이는 정서적으로 안정되고 조용한 성격을 가지고 침착한 아동들이 의복에 대한 선택과 착용에 대해 관심과 호기심을 많이 가진다고 해석할 수 있다. 관리성에 대해서는 사려성이 1%수준에서 유의한 결과가 나왔는데, 이는 일상생활에서 행동보다는 생각에 많은 시간을 보내며 어떤 결정을 심사숙고하는 사려성이 높은 아동들이 의복을 구매할 때도 계획성 있게 하고, 관리할 때도 여러 가지를 고려한 후 의복을 관리한다는 것을 알 수 있다. 의복행동의 동조성도 사려성이 1%수준에서 유의하게 나타났는데, 사려성이 높은 아동들은 한 사회 집단에 의해서 전형적으로 받아들여진 옷차림이나, 집단에서 승인 받기 위하여 준거집단에 맞추어 옷을 입으려는 경향을 보여주었다.
