This essay links to the counter argument criticism which states that scheme and fantasy of heroic story is the element which decreases the reality. Despite the fact that heroic story receives criticism that it is monotonous and unbelievable, it has been created endlessly until the extinction of ancient story. Many of heroic stories frequently contain non-realistic and accidental events, and the end is easily conjectured by reading the beginning. However, lifetime readers are exhilarated and addicted to this story. The background of this state is because scheme and fantasy is applied as heroic story’s genre custom. This essay analizes the which has been written in the last period of ancient story in this view. expands the story by adding variety of episodes with interest with the hero’s life as scheme pattern. Moreover, although problems are frequently solved through intervention of surrealistic being, by loss of problem awareness of transcendencethe actual problem is eliminated and amusing fantasy replaces it. This kind of state alleviates the tension of the reader, who is at the same status as the character of the story, and is a transcription strategy which fulfills the reader’s desire to solve all the discords in the story. Literature researches the truth and provides joy through reemergence of actuality and fulfillment of hope. We need to approve the esthetic value of heroicstory and closely examine the functional formula within the work before criticizing the scheme and fantasy of heroic story in the view of reemergence of actuality.

이 논문은 영웅소설의 도식성과 환상성이 사실성을 떨어뜨리는 요소라는 비판에 대한 반론의 일환으로 작성되었다. 영웅소설은 천편일률적이고 허황된 이야기라는 비판을 받음에도 불구하고 고소설이 소멸하는 시기까지 지속적으로 창작되었다. 대부분의 영웅소설은 비현실적이고 우연적인 사건이 자주 등장하고, 앞부분만을 읽어도 뒤의 내용을 쉽게 짐작할 수 있다. 그러나 당대 독자들은 그 내용에 열광하고 중독되었다. 이러한 현상의 배후에는 영웅소설의 장르관습으로 도식성과 환상성이 작용하고 있기 때문이다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 시각에서 고소설의 마지막 시기에 생산된 <김진옥전>을 분석하였다. <김진옥전>은 영웅의 일생이라는 도식적 유형을 기반으로 흥미요소를 지닌 다양한 삽화를 첨가하여 이야기를 확장하고 있다. 또한 초현실적 존재의 개입에 의한 사건해결이 빈번히 나타나지만, 초월성이 가지는 문제의식이 상실됨으로써 현실의 문제는 소거되고 유희적 환상성이 그 자리를 대신하게 된다. 이와 같은 현상은 독서에 몰입하여 작중인물과 동일시하고 있는 독자들의 긴장을 완화시키고, 작품 내에 발생한 모든 갈등이 해결되기를 기원하는 독자의 소망을 충족시키기 위한 서사전략이라 할 수 있다. 문학은 사실재현과 소망충족이라는 각기 다른 방식을 통해 진실을 탐구하고 즐거움을 제공한다. 영웅소설의 도식성과 환상성을 사실재현의 측면에서 비판하기 앞서 영웅소설의 미학적 요소로 인정하고 작품 속에서 기능하는 방식을 규명해야 할 것이다.
