The increased number and high quality of excavations since 2000 have gone hand in hand with the development of methods and techniques for fieldwork. Nevertheless, the manual recording system of archaeological features, which requires excessive output of time and labor, as well as unnecessary expenditure, is still the dominant recording method. In order to solve these problems, a recording method using photos is suggested and its instruction is introduced in this article. As well as saving time and cost, the photo recording method is expected to facilitate the efficient reconstruction of archaeological features and the digitization of acquired archaeological data. Furthermore, it may also enable the application of methodologies previously unused in the analysis of archaeological data from field surveys.

2000년대 들어 발굴조사현장은 질적 양적으로 성장하면서 이에 따른 조사방식과 절차 등도 동시에 발전하여 왔다. 그럼에도 불구하고 발굴조사 현장에서 시간적 소모가 많은 유구실측은 여전히 기존의 수작업 방식에서 벗어나지 못하는 것이 현실이다. 이러한 방식은 시간의 소모 뿐 아니라 점차 대규모화되는 발굴현장에서 조사원들이 실측에 대한 부담감으로 조사에 집중하지 못하는 현상도 발생시키고 있다. 상기 문제에 대한 해결방안으로 본고에서는 사진실측의 방법과 절차 그리고 그 유용성을 소개․언급하였다.사진실측은 발굴조사 현장에서 시간과 비용의 절감효과 뿐 아니라 유구의 이전복원과 디지털화에도 유용하게 쓰일 것으로 판단된다. 나아가 현장조사를 통해 얻어진 고고학 자료의 연구에 있어 새로운 방법의 도입도 가능하다.
