Agar has been used extensively as a biodegradable gelling agent in the food industry and in other applications such as microbiology and molecular biology techniques, because of its ability to form gels easily at very low concentrations1). Silk fibroin has been extensively studied as a promising biomatrial, because of its many advantages such as high mechanical strength,
elasticity and softness and shows biological compatibility, stability to most solvents. In addition to its traditional use as a textile fiber, it has recently attracted considerable interest as a material suitable for biomedical and biotechnological applications2). Colloidial capsulation using both agar and silk fibroin has not been reported before. The purpose of this study is to make agar microspheres covered by silk fibroin and to examin their structure characteristics. The agar microspheres were made in W/O emulsion of hot agar solution, Span80 and mineral oil. The agar
microspheres were synthesized through the use of condensation method. Fibroin solution was supplemented to the agar emulsion and stirring was continued and evaporated to remove excess water. The resulting microspheres were examined under optical microscopy, confocal microscopy, scanning electron microscopy(SEM).
