초록

영어

Mushrooms are a nutritionally beneficial foodstuff and a source of physiologically beneficial and nontoxic medicines. They have been used in folk medicine throughout the world since ancient times. Attempts have been made in many parts of the world to explore the use of mushrooms and their metabolites for the treatment of a variety of human ailments, and they are now considered to be one of the most useful antitumor agents for clinical uses. Pleurotus spp., commonly known as oyster fungus, is a common primary decomposer of wood and vegetal residues. It can be naturally found in tropical and subtropical rainforests, and can be artificially cultivated. In addition to its delicious taste, this fungus has high quantities of proteins, carbohydrates, minerals (calcium, phosphorus, iron,) and vitamins (thiamin, riboflavin and niacin) as well as low fat. Hypoglycemic effect of hot-water extract from P. nebrodensis Inzenga fruiting body in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats was investigated also.
