Actinomycetes strain producing a high concentration of red pigment isolated from sediment that had been collected Jeju Sea, which was recorded as ACT 1. It was identified as Streptomyces sp., as based on the biochemical properties and 16S rRNA gene sequence. ACT-1 was grown in marine broth were incubated (120rpm, 25℃) for 15 days. An actinomycetes strain, ACT-1,
containing bio-active component was isolated from sea water and was identified to a genus level by 16S ribosomal DNA sequence and cellular fatty acids analysis. From these results and other characteristics described in the Bergey' s Manual, this strain was identified as a Streptomyces sp. ACT-1. The antimicrobial activities of Streptomyces sp. ACT-1 broth methanol extracts
(SBME-1) was tested against 21 microorganisms which were fish and human pathogens bacterial species. Among the various solvent layers, the SBME and SB chlorform soluble fraction (SB fr.Ch) showed strong and broad antimicrobial activities (Streptococcus iniae, S. parauberis). Also SMBE-1 showed high activity of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical, Hydroxyl radical, Alkyl radical scavenging by ESR (Electron Spin Resonance) spectrometry. The
extracts exhibited strong scavenging activity on hydroxyl, alkyl and DPPH radical, and the activity increased with increment of concentration of the extracts.
