In last decades marine organisms caught great interest from pharmaceutical companies as sources for noble compounds. Despite its relatively short history, structures of over 5,500 novel secondary metabolites have been determined, of which ca 40 compounds revealed as agriculturally and pharmaceutically active compound. For the research of the natural marine antioxidant, several bacteria were isolated from the coast Jeju in Korea. An actinomycetes strain, ACT-18, containing antioxidant and antimicrobial component was isolated from sea water
and was identified to a genus level by 16S ribosomal DNA sequence, cellular fatty acids analysis and cultral characterization (ISP, International Streptomyces Project). From these results and other characteristics described in the Bergey' s Manual, this strain was identified as a Streptomyces microflavus ACT-18. Strain ACT-18 broth methanol extraction (SBME-18) showed high activity of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical, hydroxyl radical, alkyl radical
scavenging ability. The antimicrobial activities of SBME-18 was tested against 21 microorganisms which were fish and human pathogens bacterial species. The extracts showed high activity against Streptococcus parauberis, S. iniae, Vibrio salmonicida, S. aureus, Streptococcus mutans, P ityrosporum avale, P ropioni bacteriumacnes and had poor effect on Edwardsiella tarda, and mostly Vibrio sp.
