Antioxidant Activities of Polygonum multiflorum Extract

Polygonum multiflorum Thunberg is a medicinal plant distributed in Korea, China, Japan and Vietnam. The genus Polygonum is the source of a wide range of phenolic compounds, flavonoids anthraquinones, stilbenes and tannins. Traditionally, it has been used to treat elevated serum cholesterol and coronary heart diseases. It was also reported that Polygonum multiflorum Thunberg has a strong hypoglycemic effect. This study was carried out to investigate the antioxidant activities for applications of food additives and medicine using Polygonum multiflorum which widely grown in domestic area.
