Bio-H2 production from free formic acid and its application to fuel cell

초록

영어

Biological H2 production occurs at ambient temperature and pressure. Moreover, the reaction obviates production of CO which absorbs on the catalytic site where an electrochemical reaction occurs in fuel cell. In previous studies, cell growth and hydrogen production were coupled. However, hydrogen production phase of Enterobacter asburiae SNU-1 was surely decoupled from the growth phase. Therefore, we separated hydrogen production from cell growth. The hydrogen production in hydrogen production step occurs through formate decomposition by formate hydrogen lyase (FHL). Thereby, we examined that formate was applied to substrate for hydrogen production after the cell harvest. We carried out optimization of conditions of hydrogen production with formate as substrate. This method has the potential to enable the construction of bio-reformer for PEMFC (proton exchange membrane fuel cell). Therefore, based on previous results, we tried to apply bio-hydrogen to fuel cell.
