The effect of the phospholipase A2-treatment of bacterial biomass on the biosorption of
precious metals was studied. The pre-treatment by phospholipase A2 confirmed the important
role of carboxylic groups in the binding of the metals. The pre-treatment of the bacterial
biomass with a phospholipase A2 led to a significant increase of sorption capacity. Actually, an
increase of 50-70% of the sorption capacity was obtained when the pre-treatment was carried
out for 5 h with a solution containing 0.3% of phospholipase solution at 37 0C.
Lysozyme/papain-treatment before phospholipase A2-treatment was carried out to make easier
the phospholipase penetrate through the peptidoglycan layer.
