Improvement method of sterilization to discharged wastewater of sewage disposal plant

Be avid for aquatic ecosystem and to choose a sterilization method to replace chloride sterilization, ultraviolet rays (UV) sterilization was assumed to be the most proper method after evaluating extensive assessment on technical and economical examination, installation activity and trend of each sterilization method. To consider the application possibility to Kwangju sewage system, the pilot scale UV sterilization facility was constructed. The removal rate of count of coliform group appeared in 94.5~67.9% at UV lamp of 75 W with UV sterilization chamber of the pilot scale at flow rate of 100~200 m3/day. And, removal rate of 74.3~38.2% appeared at 39 W, 100~200 m3/day. Based on the discharged water quality standard (1,000/mL of count of coliform group) and economic effects, the most suitable operation conditions of UV sterilization under our experimental scale condition were considered to be UV lamp of 39 W and flow rate of 150 m3/day.
