Hepatoma is the most murderous disease in Korea. Thus, it is very important todiagnosis in its early stage. In the point of view, MRI using contras agent such as gadolinium and iron oxide is most powerful technique to do that.
However, there are lots of problem such as cytotoxicity, non specific targeting and short half life. To solve these problems, various macro molecular contrast agent have been investigated. In particular, multifunctional nano-carriers system was focusedfor theragnosis (diagnosis and therapy) of cancer. In this study, a biocompatible polysaccharide conjugated with paramagnetic contrast agentwas studied for long circulation of contrast agent in the body and decrease in its
cytotoxicity. The material was characterized by FT-IR, zeta potential and ICP-OES and confirmed its contrast activity by T1.5 MRI. FT-IR data of the conjugate showed new peak at 1250 cm-1 and 1632 cm-1, meaning that paramagnetic contrast agent well conjugated to the polysaccharide. Also, its paramagnetic property was observed by phantom result. From the results, the macromolecular contrast agent may be helpful for ideal diagnosis and treatment
of hepatoma.
