Melanin that causes a material of skin pigmentation and skin melanism is produced in melanocyte existing in epidermal basal layer. Melanin has benefits as skin protect to UV but its overproduce is appeared as a spot like chloasma and freckles on face. Three enzymes contributing in melanogenesis, tyrosinase, tyrosinase-related protein-1 (TRP-1), and TRP-2 are create from tyrosine to melanin by catalysis. Tyrosinase is a key enzyme in melanogenesis. This, melanin production is dependent on this enzyme activity. Microphthalmia -associated transcription factor (MITF) is transcription factor of tyrosinase playing an important role in revelation of tyrosinase. α-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) gives an impetus to melanocyte and induces melanogenesis. This study was concentrated on elucidating the effective samples in melanogenesis inhibition among natural products by measurement of melanin amounts and enzyme activity.
