Gram negative, rod-shape, facultatively anaerobic, designated IMCC1097T, was isolated by standard dilution plating method from seawater in Goseong of Yellow Sea. The temperature, pH and NaCl concentration ranges for growth were 15–30°C, 5–10 and 1.5–10%(w/v), respectively. Colonies of isolate average size was 0.05mm in diameter. The predominant fatty acids are C16:17c plus isoC15:02OH, C18:1. The DNA G+C content is 57.9mol%. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showded that this isolate belonged to the order
Oceanospirillales. This clade was supported by 100% bootstrap values in both maximum likelihood and neighbor-joining trees and clearly distinguished from other families within the order Oceanospirillales. Robustness of the relationship between the strain and member of the Oceanospirillales, however, was not observed in a maximum parsimony tree and bootstrap analyses. On the basis of taxonomic results of IMCC1097T, the strain represents a novel genus and species, for which the name Litoricola lipolyitica gen.nov., sp.nov., within a new family, Litoricolaceae fam. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Litoricola lipolytica is IMCC1097T
(=KCCM42360T=NBRC102074T).
