Antibacterial Activities of Several Plants Extracts Against Propionibacterium acnes

Antibacterial activities against Propionibacterium acnes was determinated by paper-disc method. 50 kinds of herbal plants were extracted to EtOH and antibacterial activity were measured by diameter of inhibition zone. As a result, it was revealed that clear zone was formed in the extracts of duckweed (whole plant), peony (root), forsythia (fruit), jujube tree (fruit), pine needles (leaf), plantain (leaf), sorghum (seed) Ephedra sinica (stem), persimmon (leaf), regal
threewing-nut (leaf), and artemisia (whole plant) of 50 spp. plant extracts. Among of these extracts, regal threewing-nut, persimmon, plantain and artemisia were appeared highest antibacterial activities in the extract concentration of 0.25 mg/ml.
