Immuno-Modulatory Activity of Codonopsis lanceolata

Codonopsis lanceolata is a Magnoliophyta Plantae belonging to the order Asterales and the family Campanulaceae. The roots have long been used as a traditional medicine in korea for the treatment of anticancer and depurative.
Codonopsis lanceolata is consisted of the componants that arginine, stigmasterol, spinasterol, squalene, terpenoid, cycloartenol N-formylharman and perlolyrine, etc. Antioxidant activity of ethanol extract and anticholesterol of hot water extract from Codonopsis lanceolata were reported in korea. Monocytes and macrophages are phagocytes, acting in innate immunity and cell-mediated immunity.
Phagocytosis is involved in the acquisition of nutrients for some cells, and major mechanism used to remove cell debris and pathogens in the immune system. The goals of this research were to study the immunomodulatory activity of extracts from Codonopsis lanceolata in RAW 264.7 cell line.
