Hydrogen Production by Fermentation Using Ratio of Anaerobic Sludge

The purpose of this study is to search the optimal mixing ratio of medium and sewage sludge, and to produce hydrogen by anaerobic fermentation. Sewage sludge is pre-treatment by heating process(80 ℃, 30 min) and then culture on 3% glucose as the carbon source. Sludge and medium are culture, in the ratio of 5 to 1, 3 to 1, 2 to 1 and 1 to1, using batch reactor during 5 days. Experimental results indicated that the hydrogen production ability of mixing ratio affected pH and organic acid. Acetic acid and butyric acid were the main by-products from the glucose degradation.
