Effects of gas flow rate and inlet loading concentration on the biofiltration of toluene vapors

초록

영어

Due to the regulation demands, waste gases treatment and control were paid more and more attention in recent years. Among different waste gas treatment techniques, biofiltration were successfully applied to remove low-concentration VOCs(Volatile Organic Compounds) or odorous pollutants in the gases emitted from different industrial or agricultural process.
In this study, performance of biofilter system for removal of toluene as the primary experiment of TiO2/biofilter hybrid system, was started to expand the industrial application parts and increase the EC(Elimination Capacity). The biofilter system used about 5 L of inorganic filter bed which
was already inoculated with microorganisms from sewage treatment plant. At the startup time, microorganisms was acclimated to toluene environment during 30 days. The experiment was performed at following operation conditions: air flow rate; 10L/min, superficial velocity; 2.1 cm/s, EBRT (Empty Bed Retention Time); 15-60s, toluene IL(Inlet Loading rate); 12-60 g/m3/h, nutrient spraying; 1L/2weeks. The highest value of each RE(Removal Efficiency) and EC was showed at EBRT; 60s and 20s.
