In this study, to study the cellular effects basal on toxicity due to As(III), As(V), Cd and Pb. E.coli and D.magna were selected as a model organism and using two organisms. LC20 values to the each heavy metal are determined, respectively. When compared LC20 values between E.coli and D.magna, E.coli was shown more tolerant than D.magna. In addition, recA, katG, fabA and grpE in E.coli, and five genes encoding vitellogenin, ATNT, hemoglobin, CYP4 and 314 in D.magna were selected to analyze the expression level and patterns due to heavy metals by quantitative RT-PCR. In the case of E.coli, it showed that As(III), Cd and Pb caused the increased expression patterns of recA, grpE and katG. But, the expression of fabA was increased only exposured by Cd.
However, D.magna has shown the repressed patterns to all selected biomarkers after exposed by As(III), As(V) and Cd, except the case of CYP series to the Cd showing increased pattern. These results suggest that different expression patterns of selected biomarkers exist in the E.coli and D.magna in response to heavy metals spike.
